Weird boot problem (and solution!)

23 August 2012 - 08:53 AM

Installed ML on HP HDX 16 using ###### method. Then used Chameleon 2.1 as bootloader. Noted that after install, whenever I updated the boot config file (org.Chameleon.Boot.plist in /Extra) using GUI tools (e.g. Chameleon Wizard), the permissions would change and the system would freeze during booting.

Upon closer inspection, I realized that the permissions on the file which allowed the system to boot fully was 666 (rw-rw-rw-). Every time the permission changed to prevent write permission to "group", "others", the system would refuse to boot. Changing them back to 666 (chmod 666 /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist) would allow the system to boot smoothly again.

So to everyone who encounter unexplained boot freezes, I would giving this a shot; it may just work out for you.

PS: Sorry if this has been covered earlier; didn't search the forums.

Lion 10.7.2 on MBR

07 November 2011 - 01:09 AM

I created the installer for 10.7.2 with Nawcom's patch using the guidelines provided in this guide. I get through the pre-installation steps smoothly; only when it starts to copy the files that I get an error saying that there was an error in the (target) disk and aborts.

I'll try to post a screen/photo if possible. Has anyone else gotten it working ?

HP HDX 16 Keyboard, Trackpad not recognized in Lion

25 September 2011 - 09:54 PM

I have a HP HDX 16 laptop with the following specs:

> Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile P7550 2.26 GHz
> Intel ICH9 Mobile Chipset
> 4 GB 800 Mhz DDR2 RAM
> Seagate Momentus SATA 500 GB HDD
> NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB
> Optiarc BDROM Drive

I recently partitioned the HDD using GUID Partition scheme and installed Snow Leopard on partition 2 (partition 1 is reserved for Windows 7). After that I created a bootable Lion DVD using Regae's method (http://www.insanelym...howtopic=266390) and booted, installed Lion on partition 3. After booting into the installed Lion partition, a window pops up saying that I don't have a keyboard connected (similar to the screenshot posted by mFlorin in this thread: http://www.insanelym...howtopic=75403).

I tried installing again, this time using tonymacx86's xMove+##### method (http://tonymacx86.bl...x-107-lion.html) on 15.5 GB partition on HDD. This time I noted that the keyboard and trackpad werent recognized in the installation itself (I was able to complete the installation as usual with a wireless USB mouse as in the last iteration). Again after booting into the Lion partition, the keyboard and trackpad won't be recognized.

So now I tried using PS2 Controller kexts (once using SL PS2Nub & PS2Controller kexts, then a couple of items from kexts.com) but, at best, I was only able to get the trackpad working (using kext from http://www.kexts.com...o=file&id=1448).

Then I added /Extra folder from SL into Lion; now the boot freezes on FakeSMC Successfully initialized (after using a npci=0x2000 kernel flag to get past "PCI Configuration Begin" message).

I'm pretty frustrated now; it seems whatever I may try the system is not willing to move past that point. I am also wary of investing any more Benjamins on this project viz. a USB keyboard.

Anyone have a good solid advice to get me through this?
