random switches of user setting (wallpaper & launchpad icons) after reboot

26 November 2012 - 09:35 PM

i've been having a weird problem with my 10.8 ML setup. It seems like my hackintosh is having a split personality disorder.

every now and then when i restart normally or from a random KP, my user setting would switches back and forth. This happens with two instances of settings; wallpaper, launchpad icons, and some app settings. I use this app call Blotter, where it overlay my calendar over a selected monitor (i have multiple monitors) of my choosing. That app would switches it's location in between monitors as well as the other settings i mentioned.

i have a feeling that it has something to do with my user account setup. a while ago i had to restore and used migration assistant. That might have created two concurrent user setting perhaps? so every time i reboot it loads different one?

thanks for any help in resolving this issue.

Weird problem with dual graphics card mountain lion [SOLVED]

12 August 2012 - 06:38 AM

Hello all.
I recently upgraded from lion to ml. My setup is a Dell xps 420, with 8800gt 512mb, and a 8500gt 256mb card. Running on 4 monitors. In lion I used efi injection and the setup was great. After the upgrade, the 2 monitors on 8800gt is fine. But only one of the monitor on the 8500gt works.
Here is the weird problem. The other monitor on 8500gt shows a black screen. However it only display my cursor and nothing else, as I move the mouse across that monitor. Everything else is black. When I do a screen grab of that monitor, everything else and any windows does show up in it. It's as if that monitor does work.  When I boot into the installer, all the monitor works as it should

solution:

i felt like such an idiot once i figure this out.
i set one of my monitor to rotate 90 degree. once i change it to regular orientation, everything works.  the 90 degree rotation works fine in Lion, but not in ML.
if anyone has any clue on getting that to work it would be awesome.

thanks to those that replied

If anyone have figure it out, please share how you got it to boot and what did you use. I'm on lion running smoothly. But can't seem to boot ML after the install. Stuck on waiting for root device...

Thank you.

update

thanks to RaMDaY with the needed kext.

LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext
LegacyAppleAHCIPortIntelICHx.kext

and set Raid to On in BIOS

everything was smooth sailing after that.

any fellow XPS 420 user need help let me know. i'll do everything i can to pay-it-forward

need help please! install went fine, but can't boot

04 August 2012 - 01:42 AM

hello all! appreciate any inputs

DELL XPS 420 running Lion perfectly updated up to 10.7.3

i used myHACK to prep the usb drive. the install went fine, but can't seem to boot into it.

one thing i notice is at first the installer couldn't find my HD (SATA). I had to add a next for it to see the HD.
the error was "waiting for DMOS", i'm guessing it's about not finding the HD.

was there any changes to the ML regarding the KEXT responsible for seeing the HD?

thanks again everyone.
