I wish to build a Hackintosh which is as quiet as possible, and also with as few moving parts as possible. My goals are both getting a low noise level, and reduce the risk of mechanical failures. However, I agree that getting rid of fans introduces the risk of electronic failure due to hot temperatures, so you need to do some balancing here.

I'm also avoiding liquid cooling, because I think that's not what I want (too complicated and too expensive if you want 100% leak-free guarantee)

I just saw the fanless gfx card Zotac GTX 640 Zone Edition.

Would you recommend it? Or does it get too hot?

What I'm looking for is some discrete gfx card, suitable for playing The Sims 3 with good performance, but with passive cooling, yet without a too high risk of reduced lifetime due to high temps.

Does such a card exist? Thanks!

I'm in the process of building my first Hackintosh. Everything is going to be brand-new, and I'll install Mountain Lion as the only OS in the machine (there will be no previous OS installed as the machine will be brand-new)

My question is: I bought an external Apple SuperDrive for my Macbook Air. Can I use it to install Mountain Lion on the Hackintosh? Is the SuperDrive a bootable device with the GA-Z77N-WIFI motherboard? Or do I need to put an internal DVD drive on the hackintosh?

Me ha faltado muy poco para comprar un Mac Mini del nuevo modelo 2012, pero la falta de una buena GPU finalmente me ha convencido de que no me lo puedo comprar. El nuevo iMac tampoco me convence porque no tiene opción de disco duro SSD de 256GB (el Mac Mini sí que la tiene).

Por ello, estoy considerando seriamente hacerme un Hackintosh, que tenga una configuración igual o superior al Mac Mini que me pensaba comprar, pero añadiendo una buena GPU.

En concreto lo que busco es:

(por orden de más a menos importante)
1- Ultra-silencioso (Esto es IMPORTANTE, valoro mucho el silencio cuando trabajo)
2- ULTRA-SILENCIOSO (por si no ha quedado claro :-)
3- Bien refrigerado (temperaturas de CPU y GPU en valores "saludables" incluso cuando van a tope de trabajo)
4- Alta calidad de componentes (quiero que esta máquina dure sin problemas el mayor tiempo posible)
5- Procesador i7 de 4 núcleos
6- Disco duro sólido SSD de 256GB con TRIM (o compatible con TRIM enabler)
7- Una buena GPU (preferiblemente NVIDIA porque es mi marca favorita -admito que es un gusto personal)
8- Unos 16GB de RAM.
9- USB3

Como podéis comprobar, todo eso podría tenerlo en un Mac Mini original, con la única excepción de la GPU (y quizás también con la excepción de la buena refrigeración, porque últimamente las máquinas Apple van demasiado "al límite" en temperaturas, al menos para mi gusto).

No menos importante que todo esto es que tengo experiencia NULA en componentes PC de los últimos 15 años, por lo que si conocéis en Valencia (España) algún comercio que monte PCs y que lo haga con buena calidad, y que sepa hacerlos ultra-silenciosos, y tengan algún conocimiento sobre compatibilidad Hackintosh, os agradeceré mucho el consejo (si no está permitido recomendar comercios en el foro, podéis recomendarmelo por privado).

I've never used a Hackintosh. But today I feel really disappointed with Apple, because the new Mac Mini lacks a discrete GPU, and the new iMac lacks SSD (except for the top-of-the-line model, with the option of 768 GB).

I'm not into building myself a Hackintosh, I'd prefer to buy a complete finished computer from some brand.

I'd like it to have what I expected to get from the new Apple product line:

- Most important of all: OSX Mountain Lion should run flawlessly, with no issues.
- Silent (very silent... you shouldn't notice it's powered on)
- Quad core i7 (the most powerful, the better)
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB SSD drive
- 1GB NVIDIA GPU

Is there any pre-made branded desktop which would meet this requirements?
