Turning off the secondary display produces artifacts, a blue screen and then a crash on...

10 October 2012 - 10:59 AM

I have plugged a projector (Panasonic AX200) in my graphics card's (GTX 560ti) secondary DVI port with a DVI-HDMI cable. In the primary port there's my BenQ monitor (DVI-DVI). I had no problem's for the first few months with this setup but this has been going on for a few weeks now: when I turn off the projector and turn the monitor back on, after a few seconds strange artifacts appear on my monitor, mouse cursor stops moving, keyboard stops working and everything freezes. If I don't press reset, the screen usually turns blue eventually.

What's causing this and how to solve it? I don't have any power saving settings enabled and no screen savers. I have set up the projector to show an extended desktop.

I read the thread "

NVIDIA GTS 450 - "Blue Screen" after changing resolution"

and updated to 10.8.2 and installed the Nvidia drivers as recommended there as a solution. It didn't have any effect on my problem however.

Here's a photo of what happens: http://i.imgur.com/liSZE.jpg

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!
