In Topic: No acceleration on nVidia GT650m on Mountain Lion 10.8

I have a similar issue - the machine is otherwise fully functional and I am running 10.8.3 (12D78) but no graphics. If you boot with NVDAStartup.kext and without GeForce.kext, the machine actually does boot but you need a second mac to share the screen and the maximum display will be 16?? by 1080. As I have my L702x hackint0sh with a nice second monitor attached, I run mine thatI way some times.

I have tried Clover but the results are not better - I believe the Ubuntu folks had similar issues and it required a kernel fix but I have NOT verified that nor been able to track it down. I would like to get a copy of the Mac VBIOS from a GT650M in a MBP or iMAC to use and I could really use a clear explanation of the source and reason behind the CVGDisplayxxx and etc. messages.

At this stage, I wish I could turn my HD4000 back on :(

In Topic: Help for Dell 7720 (2828,3D edition)

23 January 2013 - 04:08 PM

I have the same machine - it is running in safe mode only at the moment. I have to remove the nVidia NVDAGK100HAL.kext to get it to boot; some say the GeForce.kext is the issue; frankly, that might be better so I am still researching this.

I am modifying my DSDT for the 650M although in the long term that should not be necessary. The Dell device ID is NOT the same as the Apple one and we have more memory so we can expect issues for a while until this gets worked out. I have working keyboard and trackpad - my biggest issue at the moment is no ethernet; although somebody said it works, mine does not. Without an internet connection which will work in safe mode, I am stuck at the moment.

I have pulled the SSDTs and the DSDT from Win 8 using AIDA64 and got a listing of all devices so the numbers and ports can be determined.

Audio should work; it doesn't because kexts still do not load; the built-in Ethernet is supported and the kext loads but some little thing is not right - says not connected and in the IOReg is identical to my working L702x except the active connection type is blank which makes sense based upon what I am seeing.

I'll update as I make progress - if anybody has the onboard ethernet working, please let me know. If anybody has a working GT 650M, please let me know. I installed the Retina package to get the latest drivers but that didn't help and it wouldn't complete boot even in safe mode.

C'est la vie.

In Topic: Need help - cuda-z can't see my card - device emulation cpu

02 May 2012 - 01:29 PM

my 2nd monitor is now working but I still have no cuda.

Any ideas?

On my L702x w/GT550M, I copy a known card from a similar mac machine and use it in my system definition. In my case, in the info.plist in the AGPM.kext, the MBP6,2 has an entry for a 0x0a29 nVidia device. I copy that child, using PlistEditPro, to the MBP8,3 and rename it to 0x0dd6 which is my device. While I 'see' no difference, it eliminates a message in the LOG that occurs about 30 times a second when I'm streaming video and activates my CUDA for BOINC.
