#1891233 FileNVRAM 1.1.3 Released

#1891091 Google releases new i5 chrome book with Retnaesque screen

Posted meklort on 22 February 2013 - 02:59 AM

I'd like to get my hands on one of those.... then install OS X on it (and make it work better than a retina macbook pro 13). Unfortunately, other than the touchscreen, it's lacking in USB (2.0 instead of 3.0) only an i5 (too bad you cant select an i7) and no thunderbolt or firewire.

#1884209 New OS X compatible motherboard -> QUO

Posted meklort on 28 January 2013 - 06:40 AM

Here are a couple more pictures. I've included a picture of the sata ports (4 are sata 2, 2 are sata3) and the codec (ALC892), again all of which work out of the box. For my setup I've only added the cpu and (lots of) ram. I have tested the thunderbolt ports and I was able to boot up with the apple ethernet adapter working (although the internal connector works fine too). My understanding is that the board will be sold standalone (but don't take my word on it) and will be comparable in price to current thunderbolt mobos. On neweggs website, the closet that I could find to this board in terms of number of ports is ~$240 (the GA-Z77X-UP5 TH). The facebook page that iztech listed does have a preliminary price listed there. This board does have firewire that the other one doesn't as well. As far as the install procedure goes, seeing as I do some development work for chameleon, I decided to install with the legacy chameleon method. Using the latest chameleon, yo...

#1883901 New OS X compatible motherboard -> QUO

Posted meklort on 26 January 2013 - 08:28 PM

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up: I was able to get my hands on a new motherboard from QUO Computers and test if out over the past few weeks. With this mother board you can boot up the installesd and complete an install with very little hassle. All of the hardware components are supported out of the box without additional drivers or dsdt edits (ethernet, thunderbolt, ivy bridge cpu/gpu). I'll post a few picture tomorrow and update this with more info. Attached Thumbnails

#1881189 iMessage not working - iCloud/Internet etc working - Changed boot.plist file...

p.H, on , said:See the change log for chameleon. It seems they're making improvements. http://forge.voodoop...e/changes/HEAD/ From the change log, someone who knows a little bit more would know that Chameleon is taking measures :D BTW, good luck and great appreciations. :D I hope you do realize that I was the one who made those commits.... those commits have nothing to do with this issue by the way.

#1849207 Patched mach_kernel 10.8.X for Atom CPUs

Posted meklort on 31 August 2012 - 04:16 AM

Attached file may or may not work, and it probably will cause xnu not to boot properly. I've updated it to handle universal binaries properly as well now. EDIT: forum doesn't want to let me attach the file so... xnu_patcher EDIT2: And since I'm extra lazy.... (this one really can break things, esp since there is no flag to disable it...) There are some changes I need to make before it can be released, I'll see if I can do them this week.

splonk, on , said:Ah. So this Atom patcher is a bit pointless, then? Pity. Would have been a neat solution without having to bug those that understand kernel development better to come up with an updated kernel for each point release. It's not pointless at all (well, this one might be), in fact I have a kernel patcher that goes and reads the correct addresses + patches everything appropriately (it's the same codebase as the KernelPatcher module for chameleon)

#1843336 Mountain Lion 32-bit Kernel?

Posted meklort on 12 August 2012 - 03:56 AM

Sure, the developer previews had 64bit kexts and you'll be stuck with them, you won't be able to update to kernel or extensions as apple releases updates. As for Running ML on GMA950 macs, that's completely different. The best option is to use the 64bit kernel and the 64bit 950 extensions that were released with 10.6.2. Again, you won't be able to upgrade these, so if apple has changed anything, there may be issues. A 32bit kernel won't help unless if you want to lock yourself into a beta version of ML.

If anyone here hangs out in the my hack irc, message me there if you'd like to do a bit of testing.

Well, unfortunately I'm currently on ML, I need to downgrade to 10.6 (preferably) to work on this properly. I should have everything setup today, after that it should be by next work (I'll probably end up putting a kernel patcher module in forge instead of a patched kernel, one the module is create I can always generate the patched kernel from it if you need that).

Alright, it'll take me a few days to get everything ready.

Any kernel from 10.6.2 newer needs either a source patch or a binary patch. As of 10.7.x 32bit only cpus require a source patch, however 64bit capable cpus can run with only a binary patch. If you want a binary patch, I can make one, but only if it's really going to be useful (like for the 1201N). The only cpu that has kexts that *might* work is the N270 (would work with the GMA950 kext from 10.6.2), however it's a 32bit cpu, so you cannot run ML on it. Yes, you can build a 32bit ML kernel, but you still *need* a 64bit cpu, the N270 cannot be used if you want to use Finder. Any other atom cpu that's 64bit doesn't have a supported gpu (again, unless if it's something like the ion). As far as real macs, Yes, the core 2 duos with GMA X3100 or GMA950 *might* work with a 32bit kernel and the kexts from 10.7.x. The big issue is the graphics drivers (aka, did apple change the interface?) I may have to try this out sometime...
