Nice, i've just busted my osx install messing around the ioata kext :(
Oh well...

Try booting into single-user or safe mode and put your original files back where they were.

If that doesn't work, try booting with a Darwin install CD and do it from there.

Yes, I'm using both kext from the first post. But I'm not running on an Intel chipset though. Is this patch only suitable for Intel chipset motherboards?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Probably. Since it relies on an Intel kext, it's possible that Tiger never loads it for you. :( I should probably update the first post with that info.

I'm not booting with platform=x86pc, and my speeds are around 2 MB/sec

I'm not sure. Do you have an Intel chipset? Are you using both kexts from the first post?

Why is it that I keep aplying this "patch" and my hard disk speed doesn't improve? :(

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I dunno. What kind of speeds are you getting currently?

Also, someone earlier in the thread mentioned that booting with platform=x86pc disables it on his machine.

Thanks greeze!  :)  I've been wondering which numbers you refered to. And for the 4kb blocks speed they're just 1.19mb/s and 0.60mb/s. Is that normal or good enough?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think that's normal and good enough. I've been reading that reads/writes under the Random disk test are pretty slow. When I get home tonight, I'll post my before/after scores so people can get a general idea.
