Hi there,
I'm running my system on a SSD, for performance and silence -reasons.
Additional there is one big storage HDD and one HDD for Timemachine.
The thing is, both of the additional HDDs are running most of the time, but I don't wont them to.
Sure, there is the "unmount" option for each harddrive, but shortly after unmounting and turning off, the HDD spins up again (of course without popping up in finder).
This seems to be a problem for a lot of "real" MacUsers as well.
I'm dying to find a solution for this. It must be possible to shut them down period.
Do you have any idea? Some crazy terminal-related stuff?
Thank you!

USB Port deactivation needs dsdt.aml - Gigabyte UD5H has no dsdt.aml

Hi there,
I'm setting up my new system right now.
Wake doesn't work perfectly yet. I'm using an external usb-souncard. It wakes the system directly after going to sleep.
That's usually not a big deal. There is a very nice modification to exclude certain usb-Ports from waking the system. It worked perfectly with my old system (same external soundcard).
My new mainboard is the Gigabyte UD5H. It's quite ok. But since it doesn't require a dsdt.aml (thats what the tonymac #####-tutorial sais) and in fact there is no dsdt.aml where it used to be (extra/), I don't know how to apply my litte usb-fix.
So, what to do now? Can I create an dsdt.aml somehow to apply the fix?
Or can I edit these settings somewhere else?
Btw, the trick was to remove "_PRW" from the related usb-port-entry in the dsdt.aml, looking like this:
Code:
Name (_PRW, Package (0x02) {
0x0D,
0x03
})

Hi there,
is there a way to completely shut down a graphicscard via MacOS so that it has no power consumption (like plugged out)?
Thinking about using my cpu-intern gpu to save energy.
Thank you

Noisy Fan - Software to slow it down?

Hi there,
the fan of my ATI Sapphire 6870 is killing me. The rest of my pc (watercooled) is nearly perfectly quiet.
In windows with the little software "Ati Tray Tool" it's very easy to shut the fan (and voltage) down.
Unfortunately it seems not possible to flash the bios of 6870, so I need to do it via software.
How can it be that there is no software of that kind available for MacOS? Or is there?

Hi there,
Im running a very stable Lion 7.3 for a while now, but even in idle/browsing the fan of my graphiccard (Sapphire 6870 HD) is accelerating and then slowing down again all the time.
The fan is generally running a bit faster than in windows 7.
Is there a better kext available to avoid these problems?
Thank you big time cause its hard to concentrade on work with such a noisy fan.
