What are you doing once you install the combo updates? Are you making sure that you replace the kernel before you restart? After 10.6.2, the atom processors stopped getting support, so you need to make sure that you replace the kernel to the mach_atom kernel (after you install the update, but before restarting). Look into this. It is a widely discussed part of these netbook forums (I'm the moderator of the netbook forums, but have also written the most comprehensive guide for the Asus Netbooks 1000 series).

I am closing this topic. You can research into the hackintosh community to find smaller laptops that are compatible with OS X. And if you're looking for a netbook, the MyMacNetbook website (which is made by Ed, the head Admin on this site) has all the netbooks and their compatibility with OS X.
