I have an Alienware M17x R4 and I installed Mountain Lion using iATKOS M2. I had selected the sound driver inside the install but at reboot I had no sound at all. So I installed VoodooHDA and now my audio works. However, whatever the settings I change on my sound, it has no effect. I cannot make the volume lower or higher either, it has no effect. I can't mute either. I tried the boolean on the info.plist inside the VoodooHDA.kext and it didn't work either :/

. I still have my USB Key for installation but it wont boot on my Alienware M17x 
Trying to boot the installation but I get 'Still Waiting for Root Device'. My SATA is AHCI! My USB Key is a Sandisk Cruzer 8GB and I know it works, I used it for my older PC! I also noticed that my USB Key seems to shut off while booting the installation and then I get 'Still Waiting for Root Device'.
