#1860123 SSD vs. HDD

Posted TH3L4UGH1NGM4N on 12 October 2012 - 11:02 PM

Firstly, hello fellow debaters I’d like the time to formally introduce myself as Mr. Laughing Man. So topic on solid-state disks, at first when they first came out they were seen as high cost disk that weren’t so much worth their price to performance ratio. Now I’ll ask you, if you’re running a system with DDR3 RAM are you aware of the fact that when it first came out that a 12 tri channel kit ran you $800? Had it been a few years ago when SSDs first hit the mainstream market and used to cost an arm and a leg, I would probably not be disagreeing with you Mr. D but here we are on October the 12th of 2012 where a 120GB solid state disk can run you about $80-100 for a good branded SSD. Now I’m going to touch on each of your points as well as eep357’s points respectively. You ask firstly what is the big deal about SSDs? Well for sometime now, if you weren’t running a pair of Velociraptors in RAID0 together then your IO speeds were quite limiting in a sense if you had...

#1859964 Why you don't need to buy an iPhone 5

Posted TH3L4UGH1NGM4N on 12 October 2012 - 07:10 AM

Needed to buy it for developer reasons. In my heart though I wanted it anyways so I woulda went out and bought it regardless if eep357 were there to stop me. :)

#1854441 Want the external blueprints for the new iPhone?

Posted TH3L4UGH1NGM4N on 21 September 2012 - 01:58 AM

Judging from the blueprints and a recent tear down of the iPhone 5, it seems like it will be difficult for me to take her apart but I'll try nonetheless when I have one in hand in a few hours.

I believe they used the Retina MacBook as an excuse to take the 17" out of the lineup and use the Ret as the new professional favorite.

it's already framed in my house GV as eep was the one who helped me get my software raid0 up and running on ML. His guide couldn't be any straight forward unless he came to your house and did the install himself.

Just like that, $2 million can be easily thrown around by rush happy jurors. The legality of the court system never ceases to amaze me.

Being both a shareholder and an iOS developer I share equal grounds here in the terms of what iPoco brought up about the Patent Wars. I'm happy to be a shareholder because of course I get to reap the rewards of the company''s upwards success rate. On the other side of the spectrum, I'm wondering where in fact will this line be drawn referring to the inspiration vs blatant copying. As competitors, you tend to peak at what your competition is rolling out that way you can better counteract it and turn things into your favor. What I see now is this competitive nature slowly diminishing due to innovations becoming patented. These corporate heads are not dull, they know when blatant copying is happening but the minor picking stuff from the competition here and there is nothing to have your legal team swoop down on. As a dev, you'll look at another person's great work and not outright copy their work (if you have pride that is) but you'll take segments of...

Which area are you looking to cut out next? IT's beyond me how I never saw this thread since you've been updating it a lot but I normally don't float so far down the forums all the time but glad I did to find your build log. Going strong so far although you're in a bit of a decision phase on whether to take away from the stock look for a bit more functionality.

#1846615 Security Through Minority

No one ever said we were the most secure but we aren't the prime target like Windows users are but that could of course change with the high sales of Mac products as of late. Just have to always be on the safe side and wear protection really.

#1845093 APPL $600B and climbing

Posted TH3L4UGH1NGM4N on 18 August 2012 - 12:25 AM

Happy days if you’re an AAPL shareholder. The company momentarily breached its market cap to a new all time high of 644 that equates to over $600 billion. In other financial news, the company’s administered its first dividend disbursement (form of return of profits to shareholders) yesterday that paid out $2.65 per share. Just to do a little math, assuming you had bought a measly 1,000 shares, which would be a nice little $2,650. A nice little pocket change to some but for those heavy-footed investors, this yields a nice return to them. With products like the product launch of a new iPhone and production rumors of Apple’s HDTV, it’s good to know that us InsanelyMac users have invested time and money in a company that is worthwhile. 9to5mac Click here to view the article

#1843523 Mountain Lion 32-bit Kernel?

Posted TH3L4UGH1NGM4N on 12 August 2012 - 09:00 PM

appologies, that part was directed to mnfesq that wanted to know about the whole 64 older kexts working. I would personally find it better as well not to have a mixed hybrid system either as it would induce more issues. I totally agree with you on having a virgin system because who doesn't like virgins? :) Also, so long as you have SL, you'll have the best of both worlds of 32 and 64 bit which is why I still have a SL system around still.
