In Topic: Final thoughts on Windows 8: awful

Read the article, perhaps? This is about an article written by Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, not by any random idiot. Or search google for something like "Windows 8 is crap", 62,400,000 results. Plenty of answers.

I lol'd at this answer. Of course, I had read the article before I saw the 'post' option. Perhaps I should have said "The way this review is written doesn't really focus on what the author didn't like, but rather how much they didn't like it".

Also, out of those 62.4 million results you mention, I'll bet 62.39 million of them are a result of searching for anything containing the words "windows", "8", "is", and "crap". If you search with that whole phrase in quotes, then it should only search for something with that exact phrase (not variations), but by that wording, you're most likely to only find more reviews that are lacking the details I wanted.

Furthermore, I'm not interested in searching the web for why people might hate an unreleased OS - when I see a post that is linked to IM's front page that posts a review of it, yet doesn't really go in depth about the experience, really leaves me with the question "was this just to bash windows intentionally"?

From my own Windows 8 experience, I have very few (if any) qualms. The only major difference is the start menu being changed into the 'metro launcher', which still holds all the stuff the start menu would, and you can still type something (notepad or cmd, for example) just like in windows 7. There's better integration for getting frameworks for programs you might install (not everything, but more than my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop does). I also happen to like the look and feel of the 'metro' versions of apps like IE and WMP, but as I'm using a preview edition, there are some bugs, but thankfully the standard versions of every program is still present.

Windows Explorer is virtually identical in look and operations to Windows 7's version, so I'm not seeing how people can get lost. Maybe the big issue is just they miss the look of windows 7 (because again, the functionality of the start menu still exists in the same way for the metro launcher, it just looks different)?

That was not a direct reference to you, there is no reason for you to take offense.

You asked why many people thought that Windows 8 is bad, Alessandro told you to look it up, and you got your answer. I don't see a problem here.

Actually, *I* asked why many people thought Windows 8 was "crap" - apparently someone else felt the same way I did about the reply before I read it :D

In Topic: I'll buy you a beer: Firewire Audio Interface Unstable as HELL.

I work with a RME Fireface 800, too :D
When we first got it we had some issues with it, but after updating the RME to the latest firmware, everything was good to go after reloading our configuration settings. If you have not already updated your RME's firmware, I'd suggest doing that FIRST.

That being said, if you already have the current firmware, and if all your other firewire devices work flawlessly, I'd suggest trying the RME on another computer and seeing if you run into problems. The problem you describe, however, suggests to me that you may have some DSDT fixing to do. FWIW, I've seen many audio problems (even with other external interfaces like mbox2) that will not go away until you have a proper enough DSDT to have proper IRQ routing (main problem area is HPET).

In fact, I've seen many people who end up getting a real Mac for audio production because of problems with their hackintosh. You should only use a hackintosh for professional work if it's very thorough, and of course, very vanilla.

I don't see how people can complain about 8 and praise 7 - is it the change in the start menu/metro that's just offputting to you? I've been playing with W8 since the first CP was released on their website, and for the most part, it's not very different from 7; Windows explorer works the same way. I kinda like the metro versions of WMP and IE, but (fortunately) even if I didn't, the 'legacy' versions are also present, and can be pinned to the taskbar or shortcutted or whatever, just as in the past.

I really don't see the downside to W8, but am interested to know what exactly is causing people to get upset about it.
