#2156500 30 years of the technologie's evolution

Don't you need a printer any longer? And some printer drivers for Mac are awful.

#2141538 [New!] Linux Distributions Poll

Posted by Alessandro17 on 03 June 2015 - 10:59 PM

Its true in general linux has become less interesting over the past years, my interest in it peaked some 10 years ago. In my case even longer, around 2003. But it was the year of Mandrake 9.1, Libranet 2.8.1, SUSE 9.0... Those were great distributions which made you believe that one day Linux could replace Windows on the desktop. I preferred using SUSE 9.0 to Windows XP.

There is nothing left to be said in this topic that hasn't already been said. It is turning into petty bickering. Therefore I am closing it for now.

#2117020 Final warning: real email addresses

Posted by Alessandro17 on 02 March 2015 - 06:50 PM

A junk email address, also known as disposable email address,  is temporary. A "normal" one is not: http://en.wikipedia....e_email_addressSome sites are clearly trying to collect email addresses so that they can sell them. We are not.

#2116729 Best Moderator Ever

Posted by Alessandro17 on 02 March 2015 - 05:58 AM

I don't really like this kind of topics because they could cause jealousy between members of staff.Besides, what does "best moderator" mean? It is different from the point of view of an administrator and that of users. From my point of view one of the best moderator ever was ruger42, because he moderated  a lot in a difficult time. The best supervisor/administrator is probably Poco. He has done a lot for this forum for many years. Without him this place would be very different, probably it wouldn't exist any longer. But they/we are all good, else we would be retired by now.As VirusX said: let's praise the whole community and not just single people please.

#2114851 Permanently Banned From Tonymacx86

Posted by Alessandro17 on 25 February 2015 - 02:58 AM

If I understand correctly, users here are also strongly discouraged from using a distro and anyone found using it are warned by mods, and subsequent mentions could result in a suspension or ban (moderators, please correct me if I'm wrong). Mere discussion about their existence, function and history is allowed and perfectly alright.    Only users mentioning paid distros, like iATKOS M and Y are acting against the forum rules. I have always resisted the call to ban distros. Users should be left free to have as much choice as they wish. I believe that calling distros "piracy" and other methods not is hypocrisy. Whatever you do you are in breach of EULA, But if you own a legitimate copy of OS X  you can't call it "piracy"

#2105314 PCLinuxOS is GREAT!

Posted by Alessandro17 on 24 January 2015 - 03:00 PM

@alessandro17 Without any disrespect to ubuntu developers, i think linux mint maintainers did good job in making ubuntu a lot more stable. After all, i got a lot more breakages in ubuntu than debian sid Just my opinion and personal experience though We were told that Ubuntu was based on a Debian Sid snapshot (at least in the past, now it is unclear). That is a stupid thing to do. Debian Sid is, by definition, unstable.

Anything other than *buntu is great I tend to agree. But OTOH Mint (the main version) is Ubuntu based. Mint has been called "Ubuntu done right". There is also a Debian version of Mint, but it is not quite as popular.

Thanks tle88 but when I do use Linux (on rare occasions) I use Linux Mint. It is simply great, it auto-magically configures everything.

#2099434 BUON ANNO

Posted by Alessandro17 on 09 December 2014 - 10:58 AM
