#2087473 Windows 10 una nuova realta' , voi come la pensate? Lo avete provato?

Posted by Alessandro17 on 20 November 2014 - 10:34 AM

#2069244 [New!] Linux Distributions Poll

Posted by Alessandro17 on 14 October 2014 - 06:00 AM

Having recently come back to Linux and having tried a few distributions, this time the Ubunt based Mint gets my vote. It has been said that Mint is Ubuntu done right.I agree. It has 2 nice Gnome based desktop environments. It automagically configured every bit of my hardware. Not even Windows 8 manages to do that. It feels quite stable. I believe that Mint has received more donations than any other distribution in the history of Linux.

#2040766 Campionato del mondo di calcio

Posted by Alessandro17 on 15 July 2014 - 06:19 AM

Qualche considerazione finale? Quindi, almeno per me, lieto fine.

#2037521 MacBook Pro 15" Retina - Conviene acquistarlo?

Posted by Alessandro17 on 07 July 2014 - 05:40 AM

Everybody stop bickering right now. No sanction has (yet) been taken, but that can easily change.

#2029468 Parted Magic 6.4 released

Posted by Alessandro17 on 13 June 2014 - 12:52 AM

Once again I was right (I wish I weren't actually). Since it became paid there haven't been any new releases (once Parted Magic used to release very often) and it is going into oblivion, at last judging by DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking: No. 92!!! R.I.P. Parted Magic. We will miss you, but OTOH there are many other great Linux LiveCDs/DVDs

#2029438 MacOS X vs Linux

Posted by Alessandro17 on 12 June 2014 - 10:43 PM

What you often hear from people (and I don't mean Joe User) who have moved to OS X is that its desktop is absolutely great.Who could deny that?KDE 4xx, Gnome 3, Unity, which kind of crap is that? One day arrogant Linux developers lost their mind and decided that decent, perfectly usable desktop environments like KDE 3.5 or Gnome 2 were no longer good. I don't mean that there shouldn't be any innovation, but not wild experimentation for the sake of it, even when so many of your users are screaming that you are going down the wrong path.Fortunately some devs were sane enough to realize that something needed to be done and began to create decent DEs again, like Mate or Cinammon.KDE 4 is a lost cause. The best which can be done is to customize it so that it looks and behaves more like old KDE 3.5. This has been done mainly by the Mandriva family of derivatives.

#2024040 OS X 10.10 Yosemite unveiled

Posted by Alessandro17 on 02 June 2014 - 07:43 PM

Looks like a blatant Win8 ripoff, makes me think about quitting computers leaving society and moving to a deserted island. Or maybe we should start using Linux? It is a shame that Linux is such a mess from many points of view.  Or hope that Android-x86 becomes a viable alternative?

Mebster, you were such a nice person, why did you go? Now that I have been an administrator for years, I could have used your help.About this topic. It is very old, and yet I can never forget it. It almost stopped me from becoming a local moderator, then a global mod and eventually an administrator. If I have been a good one, I'll leave that to you.Why I still believe that I hadn't done anything wrong here? In order to answer that, you have to know the British culture very well, and this site is owned by Brits. In Britain you can joke about everything, including the Royal Family.  Spitting Image anybody? http://en.wikipedia....ge#Royal_FamilyIt might not be so in other countries, but the fact remains that this is an English owned site. I found this: http://www.harzing.com/ukculture.htm and I found it very pleasant to read. Now I am unhappy because people here (Italians) are just the exact opposite: loud, nosy, unreliable, you name it.Google for "In Britain you can joke about...

I didn't say "never", but in 9 years we have basically been left alone.

#2015206 Permanently Banned From Tonymacx86

It wasn't intended as a "low blow", it is a mere statement of a fact. There is no denying that Project OS X is barely alive.

I don't think that Apple cares and may do something about it. We have been here for almost 9 years. We have explained in other topics the (many) reasons why Apple will probably leave us alone. There is no "new generation of OS X users who sometimes seem to take for granted that OS X can run on a PC", this kind of discussion has been going on for years. And let's not forget that we all started with a distro.
