In Topic: iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 on a Dell Inspiron 8600

I'm in the process installing the same release on my 8600.

You're a little further down the road than I am at the moment, but I'd wager your problem is the video driver (NVinject). I've got the gForce GO 5200 video chipset (64MB), and it'll only work right with Natit.

In Topic: Intel PRO/100 VE NIC

15 September 2008 - 08:14 PM

I discovered two things when testing and using the Intel Pro/100 VE in my HP running JaS 10.5.4

1) I had to put the modified kext in the /System/Library/Extensions folder. If I simply modified the info.plist for the AppleIntel8255x.kext that lives deep down in the IONetworkingFamily.kext package I couldn't get the kext to load properly.

2) My machine has an NVidia graphics chipset. I ran into a conflict using titan and natit in conjunction with a loaaded AppleIntel8255x.kext that would cause instabilitiy. My solution was to use NVKush instead.

In Topic: I CANNOT GET TIME MACHINE TO WORK

21 February 2008 - 08:07 PM

I posted this same info on the "Sticky" thread yesterday, but here it is again:

I went through the same IONetworkingFamily.kext exercise without success, and then I found this on another website:
-------------
"Browse to the Time Machine drive in Finder, there should be a folder called 'Backups.backupdb' in there there should be one folder with the name of your machine. Check that the folder name matches the 'Computer Name' set in 'System Preferences / Sharing'."
-------------

So, what I did was:

I told Time Machine <tm> to use "No Drive", which turned off TM. I then opened my backup drive/volume in finder and created the two folders referenced above. I then went back to the TM preferences and re-selected my backup drive (an external 500GB USB drive). I then started a TM backup and noticed TM created another folder on my backup drive with the same name as the manually created folder but with the prefix " 2" (space-two). I suspect perhaps only the first folder (Backups.backupdb) needs to exist for this work-around to succeed, but I haven't tried creating just the first folder.

Now TM is working just fine on my ol' Inspiron 8600 (Kalyway 10.5.2; netkas 9.2 kernel (SSE2) ).

In Topic: TimeMachine fails backup

Hello Everybody,

After having no success with the "replace IONetworkingFamily.kext/remove quarantine/nuke NetworkInterfaces.plist" approach, I stumbled upon the following gem on another website:
-------------
"Browse to the Time Machine drive in Finder, there should be a folder called 'Backups.backupdb' in there there should be one folder with the name of your machine. Check that matches the 'Computer Name' set in 'System Preferences / Sharing'."
-------------

I told Time Machine to use "No Drive", which turned off Time Machine. I then opened my backup drive/volume in finder and created the two folders referenced above. I then went back to the Time Machine preferences and re-selected my backup drive (an external 500GB USB drive). I then started a TM backup and noticed TM created another folder on my backup drive with the same name as the manually created folder but with the prefix " 2" (space-two). I suspect perhaps only the first folder (Backups.backupdb) needs to exist for this work-around to succeed, but I haven't tried vreating just the first folder.

Looks like it's working so far... :D

In Topic: Leopard on Inspiron 8600?

07 January 2008 - 10:58 PM

I'm running Leopard on my Inspiron 8600. I used the Kalyway 10.5.1 build. I make it a habit to install as clean of a build off of the install DVD as is possible, adding graphics (nvidia GeForce FX GO5200 via natit), sound, etc, after the fact.

No power management, and I haven't tried to install the ALPS touchpad support as of yet, but all the essentials work just fine (graphics, ethernet, WiFi, audio, DVD).
