sony vaio VGN-NR180E video question

03 February 2009 - 07:46 AM

hey guys, what's up..

i'm doing this laptop for my friend and i'm getting troubles with the video

it is running Kalyway 10.5.1 10.5.2 didn't wanna load at all

i have been looking around for about a week now in the forums and google and i got confused with all about it

some video card specs:

the lspci from linux says:
Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

the Darwin prompt says:
VESA v3.0 7MB (Intel ® GM965/PM965/GL960 Graphics Accelerated VGA BIOS)

the system profiler of Leo says:

Display:

Type: Display
Bus: Built-In
VRAM (Total): 64 MB of shared system memory
Vendor: Intel (0x8086)
Device ID: 0x2a02
Revision ID: 0x000c
Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded
Displays:
Display:
Resolution: 1024 x 768
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Software
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

is it GM965 or GMA x3100 ?

is it GM965 = GMA x3100 ?

the AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext bundle don't seem to work (or i don't know how)

wen i first install, the boot freezes at the apple screen, ALWAYS, so i have to boot with -x -v or -x weel or -s and get rid of the AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext
and then does not freezes any more. but... i get this small screen (please see attached picture)
every since the installation starts, i get this small screen. (so i mean with or w/o the kext)

does the AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext info.plist needs to be edited? i was looking at it and it says GM965 in one of the <key> thing,
do i have to put the nomber like 0x2a02 in some were?

is the small screen due to the kexts? or some thing else?

i got confused also with the "boot in VESA mode" (sorry) is it just bear bones? no drivers?

ofcourse, no wireless, no ethernet
i have managed to get the audio working!!
with the rest i'll deal latter...

this is not my first hackintosh, i got two of them. Dell dimention 9150 desktop with a NVIDIA 7900 fully working!
and a HP pavilion laptop dv5 that was a pain in the a** to get the sound and wireless working, no video GMA4500 :(

[UPDATE]

Reading around, i've installed Leopard graphics update.
now i get a complete scrambled screen, the two black lines from the picture go to the center right, and from there can't do nothing.
the system is alive, but i don't even see the mouse pointer
i'm almost sure that i have to edit the info.plist for the AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext
but.. i don't know what..

thanks!
Al

[UPDATE]

did not mention before that the Leopard graphics update didn't wanna install, so i have upgraded to 10.5.5
now.. the Leopard graphics update still does not wanna install, so i have installed with Pacifist and still get the scrambled "complete" screen

i've downloaded this kexts from here:
http://xtremevenomuk...oad.php?list.15

that i got the info from here, on post #6
http://forum.insanel...howtopic=146148

i know it is for 10.5.6, but i decided to give it a shoot
any ways... with that one i get the blue screen with the small screen (like in the picture)

keep you updated!!
thanks..
Al

11 November 2008 - 10:16 PM

hi guys.... let's see if somebody, please, would share some knowledge this time around...

i got a pavilion dv5 1000us, i'm working on getting my sound up

Taruga's patch does not work for this laptop (it worked for my desktop)

i've followed this tread
http://forum.insanel...howtopic=132495

and from "no build in audio" on the system profiler, i got

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x103C3602
Audio ID: 12
Available Devices:
Microphone:
Connection: Internal
Speaker:
Connection: Internal
Microphone:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack

but i got no sound at all
in system preferences says "no output device found" and no icon on at the finder bar

i know i'm very close to get it

i don't know what else i can do

this is the top of the linux dump (if it helps)

Codec: IDT 92HD71B7X
Address: 0
Vendor Id: 0x111d76b2
Subsystem Id: 0x103c3602
Revision Id: 0x100302

pavilion dv5

06 October 2008 - 01:23 AM

hey guys what's up!

ok, i have a hp pavilion dv5 1000us

i got it a week ago, and got rid of vista 2 hours after i got it, grab a kalyway 10.5.1 and installed it
no wireless
1024 x 768 video
no sound
but avery thing else seems to work just fine! :P

fix the wireless problem with a usb stick
i think i can live for NOW with the video situation.....

####the Specifications#####

from hp's site

Processor •Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7350
Processor Speed •2.00 GHz(4)
Processor Cache •3 MB L2 Cache
Memory •4096MB DDR2 System Memory

Video Graphics •Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 (shared) (6) with up to 1759MB Total Available
Graphics Memory

Audio •Altec Lansing

#####the audio#####

at the system profiler showed "no built in audio"
i got the Taruga staff and replaced ALCinject.kext with HDAEnabler.kext and now the system profiler now shows

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x103C3602
Audio ID: 12
Available Devices:

and try all of the AppleHDA.kext from taruga's

still the same.... in the system preferences shows "No output devices found"
only a little "tic" at boot

the way i install the kexts is:

sudo rm -r AppleHDA.kext from /System/Library/Extensions
then use kext helper to install it, then
sudo rm Extensions.mkext from /System/Library to clear cache
and reboot

am i doing it right?????

ok guys... if you can help!!!!

Thank you very much!!!
