In Topic: Quicken Essentials on a mac netbook

10 March 2010 - 06:17 AM

I've found the issue and the fix.
The minimum requirements are 10.5.8 and I'm running to 10.5.7. So here's the fix:
  • Right click Quicken Essentials.app
  • Click "Show Package Contents"
  • Open the "Contents" folder
  • Open the info.plist
  • Look for "Minimum system version"
  • It will have a value of "10.5.8". Change that to "10.5.7".

That's it. The icon still has the slash across it, but it opens and works fine on my 10.5.7 Macbook Wind. You could probably change it to 1o.5.6 or whatever, but I havn't tested that.

In Topic: iwork 09 serial for iwork.com

12 May 2009 - 05:58 PM

Hey guys,

I can confirm that this issue is related to the serial number that you'll find if you open System Profiler. Many OSx86 people use W1234567890 and that seems to be the problem.

But the good news is: it can be easily surmounted. What I did was download HexFiend and then copy AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext from /System/Library/Extensions to another folder. Then I opened Contents/MacOS/AppleSMBIOSEFI in HexFiend and searched for "W1234567890" (be careful, the W has to be an upper-case one!). Then I picked "Enable Overwrite Mode" from the Edit menu and changed some of the bytes so I got a different string for my new ID. I saved the file and replaced the old one in the Extensions folder with it (before I did that I made a backup copy of the old one, just in case something goes wrong).

Then I rebooted and boom - I had a new serial #. Now iWork.com works seamlessly for me. I hope I could help. :(

Note: In case you follow the steps mentioned above, I am in no way responsible for any damage to your system.

Can anyone confirm that this does work? Hex Editing files on a whim is dangerous. Any other solutions out there?
