Installed OSX on SSD - But Won't Boot to Desktop - See Pics

10 April 2010 - 03:03 PM

Hope someone can please advise....trying to get OSX SL running on my new little Fujitsu laptop UH900 with 5.6" display, 2GB RAM, 62GB Toshiba half-slim module SG2 series SSD.

I made OSX SL install on a USB flash drive using my MacBook and SL disk. At first tried installer from flash drive connect to UH900, but while USB drive could boot up installer app and at the intial startup disk selection screen it showed the SSD drive partitions (See photo below), after that when OSX installer ran and I used Disk Utility, it did not show the SSD drive at all.

So, bought a SATA to USB adapter and connected the SSD drive to it and then to my MacBook. The SSD drive showed up on my desktop like any other drive, so, installed SL to it and then ran NetbookInstaller8.4 (per MechDrew guide, http://osx.mechdrew....des/nbi4.shtml) and selected:

Install Chameleon 2 NBI bootloader
Install General Extensions

Then put SSD back into UH900 and booted up...

After initial bios screen, I see this

Then I see this:

That's as far as I get with booting....

Any suggestions as to what to try next ???

If not, I'll have to restore back to Win 7, and we don't want that!

;)

Here's pic of OSX install startup disk selection screen mentioned up above when I was trying to install OSX directly onto UH900 and then pic of UH900 with OSX installer running:

Drives Show on Startup Screen, But Not in Disk Utility

09 April 2010 - 05:07 PM

Want to try OSX on my new lil' Fujitsu UH900 mini laptop..

The good news is that my OSX USB Flash Drive is able to boot and run OSX SL installer...

The bad news is that when I run Disk Utility app from installer on flash drive, the internal SSD drive is not showing up on the list of drives to select from on left side of Disk Utility window....

An odd thing is that when the installer on the flash drive boots up, it boots to a screen where you select what startup disk to use. On that screen are icons for 4 hard drives, one labeled 'OSX Install (my flash drive...), plus 3 others, 2 of which have the label 'NTFS' under them. SO, at this point the SSD drive partition are recognized as being there!....

I'm assuming that the reason it doesn't see drive is either due to SSD being formatted as NTFS or if not, then it doesn't recognize the SATA Controller on the UH900....

So, one thing I've done is run linux from another flash drive and then did 'lspci' in terminal...

Interesting to see what UH900 has in it....one thing not shown in list displayed is a 'AHCI' or 'SATA' specific controller. There is an IDE Controller in list as well as 2 PCI controllers, and a SD Host controller, plus others....

Only other thought I've had is to do workaround if I can find a compatible external USB SATA Drive enclosure and connect it to my MacBook and install OSX on SSD drive that way and then reinstall SSD into UH900...according to what I've read, SSD has 2.5" SATA connector on it...

Anyone got any suggestions???

Thanks,

Mark
