In Topic: Power Mac G5 Case mod Missing peice, can anyone tell me where to find it?

31 August 2017 - 05:47 PM

Hello guys, I just got a Power Mac G5 complete desktop and I would love to tear it down and install all new hardware and make the best hackintosh I could possibly create.

I removed all the components and decided to keep the drive bay, bluetooth and wifi wires (maybe I'll toss them) and screws (why not!?)

The only thing this case is missing is the side panel, its gone and was gone from when I found it, as well as the G5 heat sink cover (damnit!)

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement cover or would I have to design and fabricate a cover from scratch? Any help is appreciated of course and I had no idea where to post this question considering all the main forums didn't quiet fit so I apologize in advanced.

@Crazyeye1

I have the original 1 piece heatsink cover (with 2 G5 Logos) if you want it and am located in Arizona. I just built my watercooled Ryzen hackintosh in a G5 case (**SHAMELESS PLUG** that you can check out here: http://www.insanelym...modded-g5-case/

)

I am located in Surprise, Az so really only about 3.5 hours from you if you're interested. I have a whole extra G5 case too but unfortunately that is going to be used for another project. I know this post is a little older but if you still need it I have it.

good work! glad to see its also running MacOS. What will you be using this for mostly? I have an older G5 mod that I have win10 and OS 10.8 for audio mixing and mastering.

Thanks. I am really glad someone can appreciate it! Honestly I use this computer for everything. I like to do some video editing, gaming, overclocking, browsing the web, drafting projects, you name it. I am more of a tinkerer than anything. I used to be very into gaming which is where i started overclocking and watercooling, but now I am more of a "just need a new thing to try and figure out" type person. Lol. As far as everyday computer use I just like macOS better. But I really only installed it for the challenge of getting it to work. But now that its installed I have probably used it in macOS 90% of the time. Lol. Do you have a link to your build log so I can take a look at yours?

awesome build man! impressive work. did you get osx running on it? if so, what version? perhaps a write up in the software section would be good too! great job on the rig!

Thanks! It was a fun project and I am glad I did it. Got macOS 10.12.6 running on it by following the guide posted in this forum. See link here Ryzen Clover Installation Guide macOS Sierra - AMD - InsanelyMac Forum

Posted my progress as I went on there and how I got it running. Not going to take credit by re doing their post with their files from something I accomplished by following their instructions.

Final Updates on the system:

Specs:

Ryzen 7 1800x 4.1GHz OC

Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero

Zotac GeForce GTX 1080Ti

32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 3000 MHz (14,14,14,14,34 timings) . **EDIT: RAM speed actually 2933 with OC Profile that I am using. Sorry for misleading information.**

Everything works pretty well. Was able to get booted into macOS without any helper card or anything like that.

Weird items include having to be connected ONLY through HDMI to get it to boot. Once booted I can use my two displayport attached monitors without issue. Also front USB 2.0 not working but I think I just need to find the right kext file for that.

As everyone has previously stated, OpenGL scores are quite disappointing, but the CPU test scores on CB are almost as good as my windows scores. See attached screenshots for reference.

Thank you to EVERYONE who has contributed on this forum for advice! I was determined to get it working and because of you I was able to do so!!!

**Edit** I was able to get it working through some easy google searching!

So I have no idea what I actually did, but I got it to load finally!!!

Specs:

Ryzen 7 1800x

Crosshair VI Hero Motherboard

Zotac Geforce GTX 1080Ti

Only Problem is that now I don't have working ethernet or audio.

Ethernet was working when I first booted in but now is not working and I don't know what I did differently...

I don't know if audio ever worked.
