03 September 2009 - 04:00 PM

hola!

i was searching the forum but couldn't find any solution, which fits my problem. althou i'm quite sure the solution is out there:-)

i have a 10.4.8 running on two opteron 265, but system profiler shows: Total Number Of Cores: 2
it should be 4 not 2!
it's a great hardware and i got nearly everything to run but this anoying processor problem.

pleaaaasssseee help me with the link or a hint where to find an answer.

Hi. Did you try Leopard on your machine, Zepyroth 10.5.2 or others? I had similar problem on Tiger with two Opterons, only one Cpu was recognised

In Topic: Dual Opteron Tyan K8SE Server Success!

03 September 2009 - 03:01 PM

Well here it is, I succesfully installed Kallyway 10.5.2 on my Tyan dual opteron server which now had 3 on board ethernet cards working smoothly, bios seems to see my 4 cpus and my 4 gigs of registered ram... My biggest fear was that this os would not recognize my 8131 AMD northbrige but that seems fine because I have an Soundblaster audigy platinum pro zx pluged on it and I I am listening to death metal as I write this. My 2 broadcom ethernet cards are also going through this AMD 8131 Northbrige with no problem. My other ethernet is pluged on the nforce 4 southbridge which I now love beyond compare. My video card (gigabyte nvidia gt 7800 seems to rock as well). This rig is fast. My IDE drives were all recognized and my 4 striped raid sata II hard disks are flying free. Lets recap:

I would like some tips on a few issues:

1- How can I reduce the video graphic problem on boot causing a lag?
2-Is this working in 64 bit like my XP x64 system does?
3-Is there anything I should double check to see if the AMD8131 chip is fully functional?

My pc closes and opens fine.

Notice: I had to use AMD kernel flag to boot up installation and used Speedstep kernel the whole time... The other kernels and other installations such as ideneb I tried but failed to get to boot the dvd successfully.

Hi. It's good to see people with AMD Opterons :) . I'm currently using HP XW9300 workstation(Tyan K8WE mobo) with Zephyroyh 10.5.2 Leo updated to 10.5.8. I'm going to upgrade to dual core CPUs. Do you have all four CPU cores recognised by Leopard ? Thanks
