#2105321 chat broken this morning

Posted by Poco on Yesterday, 03:33 PM

Kondax, this is the third sarcastic message that you've posted in this thread in my direction. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and this forum. I'm a student, I work, and sometimes I like to have a social life outside of the tech world. Last week alone I spent well over 15 hours managing this forum for a total of $0. Did you notice the server move (which is related to the new chat)? Did you notice the tests we did with the JS? Did you notice the trouble members? Did you notice the hours I spent talking to the owners? Did you notice the 20+ messages long ticket with the hosts of the current chat? Did you notice the general administration of validating accounts, downloads, forum posts, and people PMing with questions? Have some respect.

IPS was having issues again. We're looking into replacing the chat with something more flexible/reliable, but unfortunately it is still under development.

Reopened. Please do not attempt to restart the previous discussion. I have life outside of the forum, so I don't enjoy being dragged in to deal with a mountain of personal attacks disrupting a thread. If you feel something is out of line, please report the post and let us handle it. Don't add fuel to the fire by replying.

I think this topic has run its course for the moment. If something significant comes up feel free to ask for this to be reopened/create a new topic - but I think most of what needed to be said has been covered between this thread and our own thoughts. Time to focus on more important topics :dev:

There are a few areas we'd like to focus on during the next update. HWDB being one of them, tutorials/guides discovery is another. As a general comment, we love suggestions! We also love when people who have suggestions are able to help implement them. So if anyone has experience in PHP (and some basic HTML/CSS) and would like to contribute to the site - especially in one of the areas listed above, then we would welcome them with open arms. We are all volunteers here, so the limiting factor for this site is manpower  :moil:

Doable yes, worth it probably not. OS is of limited use compared to hardware - I'm writing this from Windows for example. Now automatically formatting hardware would be an interesting feature, and that is something I've been planning to add for well over a year now. Small sketch of what I was thinking: User adds "components" to a "build". The "builds" are then listed on their profile/signature and can also be viewed in a section of the HWDB. Going a little bit further, if they open a new topic, allow selecting a "build" they've added so people reading the topic know all the relevant details, and the "components" pages would link to the appropriate threads.

Settings issue, should be fine now

#1952966 Some more wiki issues

Posted by Poco on 10 October 2013 - 02:25 AM

Reported the first issue to our host :). We can't really do much about the 2nd at the moment. Hopefully at some point the wiki will be replaced/complemented by the HWDB, so not much point spending our resources on it right now.
