#1940567 [Guide] Dell XPS 15 L502X (Early 2011) Snow Leopard Install (possibly L702x too)

Posted by DoiX on 22 August 2013 - 04:34 PM

@blaatschaap, first, please post your specs, or even better, update your signature. Second, what are you trying to install ML or Mavericks?   Although the tutorial is old, it's the same process and will remane the same for Mavericks and the next major OS X release, unless Apple changes something. As for the package, the kexts may be outdated, but they work. Updates to them can be found scattered around this thread. Search is your friend

I figure you should know this, boot.plist EFI doesn't inject only the DualLink Patch, but also correct values for the IGPU that closely matches the MBP one. I made it that way to reduce random artifacts. So if anyone is having them after switching to DSDT only patch, try adding the EFI string back to the boot.plist.  As far as i know, the DSDT will have priority over the EFI string so no conflicts will occur. Also... depending on the string you have, it may also inject values for the NVIDIA card (when/if it's active)

@iMac, the kext from the download archive has rehabman 's layout configuration. Either remove it or wait for me to get home and I'll post my kext with the prntscrn button modifications. Here you go:  VoodooPS2Controller.kext.zip 79.88KB 26 downloads please tell me if gestures work. I suppose they didn't work before because the general layout was messed up.

On my vostro only buttons that emit WMI codes are Fn+F4/F5... I see that DSDT from DoiX already has a needed fix implemented -> Name (_UID, "DELLWMI"), but also has some unnecessary changes done to it. AMW0 should always be notified with 0xD0, ie Notify (AMW0, 0xD0), that is how it comes stock .. instead some nasty hack was applied to DSDT to patch all EC queries to return same values as stored in INF2 (like Notify (AMW0, 0xE005) and similar). I assume this has been done to allow for IOWMIFamily to work "as is" .. I have rewritten the kext to take Dell's special case into account. Can someone revert their DSDT back to stock and please try the kext ? I have included both debug and release versions. https://dl.dropbox.c...IOWMIFamily.zip I don't remember if those modifications were done by me, anyway, i'll try your kext and see how it works :) Edit: It works. @To the rest, I didn't really have much time to allocate to Osx86 lately, sorry about th...

@Macky, i added that MEM2 function from a MBP8 DSDT, hoping it would help reduce the graphic artifacts.

#1846437 iAtkos non è compatibile con la tecnologia Optimus ma........

Posted by DoiX on 22 August 2012 - 05:31 PM

Uh? Oh... oh damn.... i really need to quit multitasking while working. In both Lion and ML you can find a stock AppleSmartBattery, I should have mentioned having a *Patched AppleSmartBattery with VoodoBattery may cause KP.

I understand now, that... well.. i don't really know what that is. Could be a kext issue, could be the values mac os x parses from the bios. But it's definitely nothing from the DSDT since i mangled the damn thing to a minimum and nothing changed related to the luminosity.

#1846234 Chance of Macs being cheaper?

Posted by DoiX on 22 August 2012 - 05:45 AM

Well, the price varies from country to country. In romania a stock New MBP 15" with GT650M costs roughly 35-40% more than in America. I also think that the price of their Mac line is not because of their OS but more because "We're apple, hip and cool with nifty patents for stuff we will not make until someone develops the technology" this part here can count for up to 20% of their value.

@Zpecter, i don't know how to update from Lion to ML but personally i would stay far away from it because it's not guaranteed to work for every system. As for installing Mountain Lion from scratch... it's like lion. Either using a premade image (like iAtkos - tho i don't know if it was released) or via the Retail Install. There are tutorials around to show you how, i've also made an app for that http://www.insanelym...howtopic=281238

The DSDT requires a kext for the FN keys to work (thats if macky corrected the fn keys as well).  IOWMIFamily.kext.zip 82.25KB 38 downloads

mv AppleIntel****.**** /KextOff < this moves more than just the intel graphics kexts... and you don't even need to mess with them If you have optimus and a locked bios theres a 1% chance that you can use your Nvidia card, hence you must remove the Nvidia kexts not the Intel Graphics ones.. So restore them:/sbin/mount -uw /cd /KextOffmv AppleIntel****.**** /System/Library/Extensions/cd /System/Library/Extensions/mv NVDAGF100Hal.kext /KextOffmv NVDAResman.kext /KextOffsudo rm -rf /System/Library/Caches/*shutdown -r now If you still encounter errors then it's because iAtkos installed the wrong smbios.plist. Do you have a fully working Windows install? We can use that to fix it quite easy. And for the love of all that's good. Don't link using Imageshack... use the built in forum attachments or any other image sharing site.

Hi deadsmile, i'm really clustered this month, work, apartment hunting and several other things. The DSDT modding is a painful process, i promised i would mod it and i will, i just can't tell when. I also have the tonymac replacement project on roll. @Amh10, on my system, that appears when i have headphones plugged in, if you don't have any plugged in then plug'em in! See if that does anything. @Ahmed, nothing that i know of... not for ML at least.

@amh10, old AppleHDA kext are buggy if you don't use kernel cache (the kext loading part). I included in the V1.4 package a [ML] AppleHDA with patched IOAudioFamily. They are the exact version that come in 10.8, for them to work you need the new DSDT (also included). After installing and rebooting be sure to check that the proper channel is selected in the system preferences sound pane. Notice: [ML]AppleHDA breaks after waking from sleep. I said i'll release a script to fix that.. and i'll do it as soon as i have some spare time, kinda busy this weekend.
