#2571863 [Guide] Dell XPS 15 9560 - High Sierra 10.13.2

Posted by blazinsmokey on 19 January 2018 - 12:12 AM

you dont have nv_disable=1 in your config.plist... you can remove NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext and youll be able to boot fine.... if not. then the nvidia card must work. have you loaded the web drivers for it? have you checked ioreg? NvidiaGraphicsFixup is not just for NVIDIA. There's actually multiple uses for it besides making a NVIDIA card work. The reason for our laptops using this is stated clearly in the original guide created by KNNSpeed. Quoted below. NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext - Enables video out on the HDMI port by causing the board-id check in AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy to fail and default to the “none” ConfigMap. (https://sourceforge....agraphicsfixup/)  Just like how a desktop can use this kext it to avoid black screen on boot by using a ConfigMap of "none" our laptops can use this method so that our HDMI out will function properly. yeah i know that it doesnt work because of optimus... thats fine, u can continue to run an un-optimized system....

Hi Everyone I'm trying to make a fresh install of High Sierra I follow the guide for the XPS 9550 I'm booting on usb and having this : "ACPI Error: RE_NOT_FOUND" issues.  The final line reading: "ACPI Error: 27 table load failures, 25 successful". Does anyone know how to fix it ? Thanks for your help Hey man you PM'd me about my 9560 and sleep and also installation error which I told you to come here. I just noticed now, reading your post here that you're following the guide for the 9550, can I ask why? You have a 9560 don't you? You can follow this awesome guide KNNSpeed setup for us and in the past few pages or so you can find out the changes for high sierra. I believe one of my posts a few pages back even includes a EFI. Also listing your detailed hardware in your signature would a great benefit to you and the people trying to help you.

Thanks for the help. Got HDMI audio working now, glad I understood this time you meant to go back to original hdmi audio kext.Went through your config and did the same injections for intelGFX. Now I'm back to HD 630 and "unspoofed". Really appreciate your patience!! All set for now I guess. My new files attached for other people if needed.  config.zip 3.09KB 24 downloads Other.zip 3.1MB 18 downloads

Took the plunge to 10.12.6 just now. Do yourself a favor don't change anything in your SMBIOS or config, plist until after you finish the update b/c when it reboots for the update you won't have support yet, lol. I had my install USB so no big deal here. Also sign out of all iCloud, iMessage accounts before changing SMBIOS, so it doesn't get all jacked up.  You can now safely remove all the faking of Skylake CPU and GPU from clover config, no need to inject anything either. Under Devices section you no longer need the IntelGFX Fake ID, Graphics section can be completely empty, and remove FakeCPUID entry in Kernel and Kext Patches. All while using the new clover configurator generated MBP 14,3 SMBIOS.  You will still need the kexts FakePCIID_Intel_HD_Graphics and FakePCIID_Intel_HDMI_Audio. Took another few Geekbench of CPU and no improvements, all within 1% of each other.Unfortunately I did not bench the graphics before this update so that is a lost on my par...

Thanks. I somehow get it, but ...... But for some gestures that are in trackpad gestures but not in keyboard shortcuts, I don't know how to map them to keyboard shortcuts. Because there's no way for me to map a value for them! First off the trackpad gestures options are limited and not ideal to use for how sycl adjusted voodoops2. I don't believe it works, haven't been able to figure out pinch to zoom in any capacity. I had a hard time grasping it at first as well. I'll try my best to explain our trackpad situation. So the 4 finger swipe up, shows desktop. F11 is also show desktop. The trackpad gesture is actually just inputting F11 or in our case FN+F11. Not the actual gesture. Another example is 3 finger swipe left and right is back and forth but it's actually just inputting cmd+[ and cmd+]. Now your thinking well what the hell are all these trackpad gestures linked to. If you go to the keyboard shortcuts and then Mission board, on one of the items like Mission...

Don't remember the exact forums, but I've seen members say the Lite-On is incompatible. Also, wmchris says the drive won't work according to the link posted by KNNSpeed. https://github.com/w...er/4k_sector.md This is what has led to the confusion for me. I'm happy to hear that the Lite-On works though! Sorry, I'm new to all of this and still trying to make sense of everything. No need to be sorry. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, it's just all the links said to me that their was no confustion. I'd say try it the 4K method way first, if that fails then try the 512 method. Either way I'm pretty sure you'll be fine eventually and then can let people in the future know which method to use. Yes I saw it. My problem is not about trackpad moving; it is about gestures. I think your second and third one is more related to that. But how do I "set the various gestures as "keyboard shortcuts" in SysPrefs"? How can I "maps these swipes to keyboard combos"? I asked KNNSpeed this...

IIRC, it was always connected at full speed but for some reason never performed at that until I disabled+enabled it. Also link speed will also depend on your router's capability, settings, and signal quality.I'm currently connected at full speed 867mbps (for the DW1560) Thank you for sharing that screenshot. I am at full speed now thanks to looking at your network specs. I noticed your channel 100, 5Ghz, 80Mhz. Mine was 165, 5Ghz, 20Mhz. I scanned on my phone to see all the different WiFi networks and their channels, turns out I had new neighbors move in very recently and they set their router to use the same channel. I switched channels and bam 5zGhz, 80Mhz and 867Mbit/s now. Link speed in Network Utility now says 1Gbit now so that leaves me to believe it gives you actual network lan speeds. :) Screen Shot 2017-06-20 at 3.58.07 PM.png 2.3MB 10 downloads I have restarted 4-5 times and it always starts full speed now. I thought 876Mb/s would be around 100MB/s.... Then you say effective throughput so, even though they're in theory equal amounts, the device can't do it. That's what your saying right?I'm not much of a laptop guy until recently, still prefer my rig 100% over this laptop. My first and last laptop I had was basically a desktop. Dumb dumb purchase by me. Sure game on a laptop you moron. Granted things are much better now. Must be nice with the 4K screen, my 1080p isn't too shabby though and from what I've seen the past few months my battery lives 10 hours is a understatement. Thanks so much for posting that guide I was thinking of selling and or just moving on from trying to get it to work but after reading all the stuff in your files and the guide, it totally motivated me.

KNNSpeed, I saw your guide and it's great, thanks. I noticed people stopped having to use a hacked voodoops2 (thanks freejack) to fix the trackpad going out. Haven't touched macOS since probably my last post here or at the other place. I'm assuming the BIOS updates eventually fixed something there. I had time yesterday and gave it go again. Posting here to not clog your thread up with different hardware and this thread seems more appropriate.  I didn't do a clean install with your method but I used your files for reference and as the core after upgrading Clover and macOS to 10.12.5. My hardware is a bit different as seen in my signature. No fingerprint sensor either. Your guide was tremendously informative. I added/changed some things to work with my system. And everything is working for the most part. No real complaints, iMessage and iCloud services are working as well.    A real guide for this set of hardware may come later from me or hopefully someone els...

The Ultimate Solution As I suspected earlier the 15 ports limit can be removed!!! Did some assembly work and here is the result: In Clover, use kext patch feature, patch AppleUSBXHCIPCI Find                83BD8CFEFFFF10Replace with  83BD8CFEFFFF16 <dict> <key>Comment</key> <string>remove usb limit</string> <key>Find</key> <data> g72M/v//EA== </data> <key>Name</key> <string>AppleUSBXHCIPCI</string> <key>Replace</key> <data> g72M/v/...

Question... you have more than 15 ports on XHC? Can you show an ioreg that demonstrates this? (red or green, doesn't matter) Reading the chipset spec... it is a little vague on exactly what they mean by 14 ports. (in light of USB3 being USB2 pins + USB3 pins). Yea you can see it my post with the screen shot after testing new method, all under XHC. Screen Shot 2015-10-09 at 7.13.14 PM.png 260.73KB 24 downloads

Because we only need to identify HSxx ports in use, their ADR doesn't matter. Check OP's guide, first photo, you can see he got all ports identified without messing with ADR. Once you got the port mapping, removing unwanted ones in DSDT and done. ADR is only necessary for kext injection. Ok but in Yosemite in IOReg, at least on my computer, what it loads up you cannot decipher which HS or SS ports are being used by whatever is plugged in. Look at my first and second screen shot. There's no way to know where the ports link back to which HS or SS. That is why I used the ADR. Unless I completely  missed something. I noticed you said it's a function, I'm sure it is something b/c in El Cap it later has an address. Usually they are formatted as such, xx0000 like 110000. I'm not an expert with DSDT, so when I saw "_ADR, 0" in the method and NotSerialized, I pretty much stopped there and was like the hell with it, lol. Might be cool to learn it, I dunno. Here is my SSP1...

Your ADR address is not zero, its a function with return value ADD(XSPA, one), or XSPA+1. To get the ADR, another way is to use IORegistryExplorer, check IOACPIPlane...but ADR is completely unnecessary if we go through the DSDT port removal route. And fwiw, you can sacrifice the HS port associated with USB3 port, in this way, that USB3 port still works but only accepts USB3 devices with no response to USB2 devices. You can also sacrifice the SS port and making the USB3 port USB2-only. If you don't have the ADR how do you know which HSxx to delete? I had 14 of them, now only using 9 due to 6 SS ports. Ahh I didn't think of that, but I don't have much USB 3.0 peripherals. The one disabled is in the back, never gets used. I'll keep that in mind though and add it to my post.

Before reading all of my post!! Whatever is at top is pretty much the latest info regarding this situation but the rest of the thread may be useful depending on your situation. The Ultimate Solution quoted here by arix98. This is the solution I'm currently using. No DSDT needed, no injection, and no dummy kexts. So far, so good for me, no KP all ports addressed and read properly. My screen shot and confirmation of this method can be found here. This method will circumvent the the 15 port limit of El Capitan. Port as in the port addresses. Here's the patch for your clover config.plist <key>KextsToPatch</key> <array> <dict> <key>Comment</key> <string>remove usb limit</string> <key>Find</key> <data> g72M/v//EA==...
