Dipende molto dal settore applicativo. Lion è stato il primo OS di Cupertino in cui ho avvertito una sensazione di 'hit and miss' nell'implementazione delle nuove feature, ma detto questo, non cambierei mai l'OS con niente attualmente in commercio. Scrivere documenti in LaTeX è semplice e veloce, il tempo di installare TextMate e MacTeX; il fatto che sia uno Unix assicura un terminale trasversale con molti altri sistemi operativi e potentissimo; vantava un supporto Java fantastico (purtroppo oggi non è più così vero); In generale nel tempo ho identificato tutta una serie di applicativo che fanno esattamente quello che mi serve.
Ovviamente se devi programmare microcontrollori, OSX potrebbe non essere il massimo.

se scarici Lion Tweak puoi abilitare su entrambe le macchine il supporto a AirDrop.

The problem of memory management in OSX has critically arose since Lion. I'm not saying the same problems were not already present in previous releases, but I started noticing the problem with 10.7.
I don't understand how people can still get their work done on macintosh/hackintosh with 4GB (or less) of RAM without starting hating Apple. Sometimes I'm forced to execute the command 'purge' just to free > 1.5GB of unused memory.
I hope they will face and solve this problem in 10.8.

credo tu abbia solo fatto un'injection dei tuoi ID, c'è chi direbbe che è poco 'vanilla', ma se funziona perchè preoccuparsene.

OSX and iOS already share the same code base. Indeed at the beginning we used to call iOS "OSX Mobile". They're trying to unify the user experience, not the technologies.

How can I specify a flag at boot time?
The procedure varies according to the bootloader:Chameleon with graphical interface: as soon as the countdown appears you have to press any key but return. At that point you select the system you'd like to boot. After doing that, you can type the desired boot flag (e.g. -v). What you type will appear in the lower-left corner of the screen. To boot press return.
Darwin bootloader / Chameleon without graphical interface: as soon as the countdown appears press F8 to stop it. Select the system you want to boot using the arrow keys. Type the boot flag and press return.

What are Quartz Extreme and Core Image (QE/CI) ?
Quartz Extreme and Core Image (QE/CI) are two technologies that guarantee graphics acceleration in Mac OS X.
To see whether these technologies are active on a system:(Leopard) open SystemProfiler/Monitor and check if the entries named "Core Image" and "Quartz Extreme" show "Accelerated Hardware" and "Supported", respectively.
(Snow Leopard/Lion) there's no information regarding these aspect in System Profiler. You can verify the menu bar: if it is transparent you can be almost sure that QE/CI are active (otherwise the menu bar is solid and whiteish). Also, if you can open DVD Player QE/CI works.
(All versions of OS X) you can add a widget in the Dashboard: if there is a "ripple effect" then QE/CI is enabled; you can open Chess, move a figure, and if it displays an animation, QE/CI is enabled.Will I experience any problem if I don't have QE/CI?
Most of the software in OSX requires QE...

i have been monitoring the website for almost a year, but actually I'm not on a rush, I will get it once the hype behind the product will have ceased.
Honestly I don't think I could stand using a full-bloated linux distro on a system with just 256MB of RAM, but the system should be enough as a media center.

rimane il fatto che non farò una gesture per entrare in launchpad per poi cliccare sulla barra di ricerca per poi scrivere il nome del programma per poi cliccare sulla sua icona e finalmente lanciare il programma quando posso fare cmd + spazio, scrivere e premere invio.
Spero che non se ne accorgano e tolgano spotlight dal mac :P

una distribuzione di Lion è solo una retail a cui vengono aggiunti dei driver sotto forma di estensioni del kernel (kext) installabili facilmente in fase d'installazione. Ciò vien fatto per facilitare l'installazione su macchine non Apple.
Per ottenere lo stesso risultato, ovvero un PC funzionante con Lion, utilizzando la retail bisogna andare a compiere quelle operazioni che una distro di mette a disposizione automaticamente, ovvero selezionare manualmente i corretti driver e far si che questi vengano caricati in fase di avvio non sono dell'installer, ma anche del sistema.
Detto questo, il fatto che un aggiornamento sia o meno pericoloso per il tuo sistema non dipende dal fatto che tu abbia o meno una retail o una distro installata, ma dalla combinazione del tuo hardware e dei driver che hai già installato sul tuo sistema (nonchè di eventuali modifiche al DSDT).
Eventuali aggiornamenti rilasciati dagli stessi creatori della distro altro non sono che l'aggiornamen...

non posso giocare ad UT99 perchè è per PowerPC :(
Il supporto legacy è una cosa che bisogna gestire in maniera equilibrata, ad un certo pto. è molto divertente il video su youtube di un folle che installa windows 1.0, ci mette sopra un po' di applicazioni, e riesce ad aggiornare fino a windows 7, con le applicazioni che ancora funzionano (tra queste Monkey Island 1).

Diciamo in senso assoluto, sono 4 anni che uso portatili non più pesanti di 1.3kg. Ovvio che rispetto a portatili della stessa fascia non c'è paragone :)
