Installed OSX just need help with Kexts or ######

15 January 2013 - 02:15 PM

Hi there guys,

I could do with some help with Kexts and other things, I used Nawcoms ModCd to install Snow Leopard. I had to use bootflags (arch=i386 or -force64, npci=0x2000, cpus=4 busratio=17) I have to use these boot flags to boot into the installed windows, I also have to boot with the CD in (Maybe something wrong with chameleon but booting just shows apple logo if I use boot flag it goes to black screen).

The only way I could get this to boot after installation was unticking (graphicsenabler, sound, wired and wireless network).

So now I need to install the correct ones, maybe starting with WIFI. I have downloaded multi-beast boot a guide on how to use this and also how to install kexts would help me greatly :).

Thanks guys.

Nawcoms ModCd + Retail

14 January 2013 - 10:39 AM

Hi There,

So here goes, I got installation completed using this method:

Put in ModCd and USB (with retail on) >>> Boot into the modcd >>> Went over the mac osx installer >>> typed (arch=i386 busratio=17 cpus=1 npci=0x2000 rd(0,0)/Extra/modbin_kernel -v) I have tried lots of others but this is the only on that worked.

Now im in OSX retail installation >>> Format hard drive >>> Clicked customized (Any help on what to tick here would be great) I took a guess at what to tick >>> rebooted.

The next part im unsure of, do I leave the modcd in and type boot flags over the OSX or do I take the disk out and try flags in chameleon over the OSX?

1) Leaving the modcd in.
Tried many different combinations of flags and I get mainly 2 kernel panics.
    i) Stops at minit (64mb....
    ii) Double panic (CPU,0).....

2) Take modcd out.
No flags gives me apple logo and stops.

    i) Kernel panic showing a kext? (Maybe this is the issue?)
ii) Plain black screen. (Monitor is on as I can see the back light)

Somebody please help me, I feel like I am so close.
Thanks Scott.

Tried Booting to Install

08 January 2013 - 04:02 PM

Hello Guys,

I'm in need of some help, I bought a new system and wanted to dual boot with Windows 8. I thought I didn't want to jump the gun so then I decided to install Windows 8 get some software together then install apple and then finally try the dual boot. Here are my results from trying different distros:

iDeneb - Put in disk, press F8, Type -V, Press enter... Oh No! Restarted. Tried different flags just keeps restarting.
iPC and iAtkos - Put in disk, press F8, Type -V, Press Enter... Oh No! Kernal Panic and something about 0 hard drive problem??

I then decided to try a different method and went and installed VMware (which i could boot all 3 of the distros in - so im guessing thats a problem with my specs of bios?), the method was to make a virtual machine with access to the physical drive and the setting where it writes immediately to disk. I then try to run the virtual machine but have a problem something about the disk already being used.

I think this is because i would be overwriting the disk file that VMware creates which would probably break the virtual machine and not work. Do you think I could use a USB pen for the virtual machine disk file? Then I can use my HDD as a full physical drive?

All help would be greatly appreciated and im sorry if this is in the wrong place. (Mods please move if this is the case)

Computer specs are in my signature.
