Help with laptop hardware..

15 November 2012 - 10:04 PM

Hey everyone!

So I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop and I've managed to install Hazard 10.6.6i on it and have my audio, and regular RJ-45 Ethernet port working but I'm having a few problems with some other stuff..

1. The biggest problem I'm having and what I'm most concerned about n want to get working is my wireless Internet I'm pretty sure the wireless network card I have in my laptop is a Broadcom BCM4311 card and I've tried so many different things from searching in google and none of them worked so I'm wondering if anyone can give me some ideas of a new wireless network card to buy for my laptop that will work with Mac OS X out of the box or with a little modification..

2. The other problems I'm having are with my USB ports I got my USB port to work for my wireless mouse but that's it.. When I plug in my USB thumb drive or USB external hard drive Mac OS X doesn't recognize them so any help you guys can give me to get them working or tell me what I need to do in order for them to work would be greatly appreciated.

3. My third problem I'm having is with my CD/DVD drive.. Whenever I put in any kind of CD or DVD the drive it self winds up n starts spinning like its loading the cd or DVD but when I go to open it in the finder window it doesn't load the cd or DVD so any help on why it's not working n what I can do to get it working would be awesome..

Thanks for the help in advance.. And any suggestions you guys can give me for a new wirelesss network card for me to buy for my laptop to get wireless Internet working would be awesome since I can't get mine working for the life of me I don't mind sosneding money to upgrade n buy a new one that will for sure work so thanks again.

Hazard Snow Leopard 10.6.6i

09 November 2012 - 06:11 PM

Hey everyone! got a few questions here ive been trying to fix for weeks maybe months now...
Lets start with this, Ive managed to finally install Hazards Snow leopard 10.6.6i and have updated to 10.6.7 but everytime I try to update to 10.6.8 I get an error of somesort, or it installs but when I restart it just shows the apple loading screen with a circle and a slash through it, like the prohibitory sign or whatever its called, not sure why thats happened.

For my second problem, I used ###### to install some drivers and to get my wireless USB mouse to work so I figured the usb ports work, BUT whenever I plug anything else into a USB port it doesnt show up, like Ive tried plugging in my external hard drive, and usb flash drive but neither of them show up, and even when I put a CD in the CD drive, thats doesnt load either, if my USB mouse works shouldnt the usb ports works for other things like the 2 that i mentioned?
What could be cuasing this to not work and how can i go about fixing it or getting it working??

And my last and final big problem im having that I absolutely would LOVE to have working is my wireless internet isnt working, when I go into AirPort utility my wireless card doesnt show up or anything, and Ive tried all these different tutorials by searching google for getting it to work and its still not working..
The laptop Im working with is an Acer Aspire 5100 and it says it has a Broadcom BCM4311 wireless card I believe and Ive tried all these different methods of getting the kexts loaded and working and enabled but it doesnt seem to be working..
But when I go to the Acer support site to see what type of drivers are available for windows they have drivers for 2 different brands...
One if for the Broadcom which is what Ive been trying, but then they also have an Atheros driver available too so Im confused..
I've been having trouble finding an Atheros kext and trying that to see if maybe that will work, but I was also wondering, is there any like universal kexts available that might work or something?
Im getting really irritated lol been trying this for months and can get Mac OS X Installed but half of the features dont work, so any help you guys can give me would be grealty appreciated or if anyone knows any good guides out there or tutorials available id appreciate it, just wanna get it working so bad..

Thanks for your help in advance, appreicate it :)

Hey everyone!

Im some what new to the whole Hackintosh scene Ive been messing around with trying to install Mac OS X on my old laptop for the past couple months, and Ive literraly tried EVERY single distro I could find from iATKOS to iDeneb to Hazard.. The only ones I can seem to get to work is the Leo4All 10.5.2 since its most support for my AMD Laptop. Ive been trying to install Snow Leopard instead though cause Im hoping its more stable, and possibly I could get my wireless to work as well, because with my Leo4All 10.5.2 its always freezing or hanging to the point I have to do a hard restart and hold the power button down and restart that way, and it happens like every 45 mins to hour and it gets really annoying. So Ive tried a bunch of different Snow Leopard distros that would work for AMD but I couldnt get any of them to work except this newest one I found because the installer always loaded then showed the gray apple logo with a circle and a line through it.. But the one I just got working is Hazard Snow Leopard 10.6.6i BUT the problem Im having with it and cant figure out for the life of me after searching google and all these forums is I get the installer to load and everything and accept the agreement and everything BUT when it gets to the install directory where it asks me to "Select the disk where you want to install Mac OS X" my hard drive wont show up there for some reason, yet Ive installed it before and its ALWAYS shown up before except for on this one and I cant wrap my head around as to why it wont show up... I even went into the Disk Utility and it doesn't even show up there and I have no clue why, considering I have Mac OS X 10.5.2 installed on it now.. If anyone can help me or give me some tips how I can get Snow Leopard installed on it Id greatly appreciate it. Or if anyone can tell me why it isnt showing up for this distro I just dont get it at all, or how I can fix it or if anyone had this same problem before how you fixed it, ANYTHING that could possibly help me at all would be AWESOME!!!!!!! BIG THANKS in advance to anyone who can help or shed some light on my situation. Thanks again!!!!

Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop
AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor.

New to the whole "Hackintosh" scene, need some help BADLY! :)

Hey guys, so as the title says I'm new to the whole "Hackintosh" stuff. Now I have an Acer Aspire 5100 AMD Laptop its an AMD 64 Athlon X2, now I managed to install Mac OS X on to my laptop using Kalyway 10.5.2 from a torrent I found. Now my questions/problems are as follows.. For some reason it's REALLY buggy on my machine, like its always freezing and stuff to where I have to hold down my power button to restart the laptop because it completely locks up.. Now I'm thinking it could be caused by it being so out of date and an old version of Mac OS X??? So I guess what I'm looking for is a guide or tutorial on how to update my laptop running Kalyway 10.5.2 to the most current version, like Ive tried googling it and all I can come up with is the 10.5.3 ComboUpdate but its for SSE3 Intel only, and that won't work for me since I have an AMD Processor. So ya any help, or guides, or tutorials on how I can update from 10.5.2 to the most current version or even close to it would be greatly appreciated, and also where I can get all the files and tools or whatever ill need in order to complete the update would be very appreciated too. And then one last thing, I can not for the life of me get my wireless network to work on it for some reason, is there anyone out there who can be a life saver and maybe guide me in the right direction or give me a guide or something on to how I can get my wireless working on my Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop?? Thanks so much guys, and again I'm VERY new to this whole stuff and still really confused about all this Mac OS X stuff to begin with, like kexts and everything lol not even sure what a kext is, since I'm so use to Windows and stuff, my guess is it would be a driver?? But ya I still cant figure out how to install a kext to save my life either, so ya any help with both of these things would be awesome.

Thanks so much anyone who can help!!!!
