#1910914 Minihack - a slightly different G5 case mod.

Posted Mr.D. on 27 April 2013 - 09:31 PM

MiniHack, on , said: Then it was on to do a bit more cable routing to work out the management. The SATA cables go to the right area, but I want to find some right angled cables that will stack on top of each other - anyone know where I can find some?? - then I can make a closure to cover up most of the cable hole here. My suggestion would be a right angle and a 'left' angle plug - the 'left' being a 270 rather than 90 turn. The right angle going down, the left angle going up, then fold the cable back on itself. Assuming you have a pliable enough cable (monoprice has some good Sata3 and 6 cables that aren't super thick and are pretty cheap) you'll just have a small bump going up. To use the stock G5 HDD mounting I had to use one left and one right angle cable because one went up and the other went down. Only took me 5 different combinations to get that all correct! Two questions: 1> Was it required to cut the TeslaConverter case to get the cables...

#1910465 iPad Retina Display Hack for Your Desktop!

Posted Mr.D. on 25 April 2013 - 11:33 PM

The Retina displays are pretty sweet. I found this blog by a guy who has converted an iPad Retina Display for use on his desktop computer. All told it cost him around $70. Not a bad price for that display. Check out his work here. If anybody ever does this from here I would be very interested to see the results!

#1906098 What about it?

Posted Mr.D. on 12 April 2013 - 03:22 AM

I am a drummer myself so I appreciate good styling. Its ironic because my favorite is Neal Peart, and yet I hate Rush as a band. I have gotten very good at tuning out the rest of the crap and just listening to Neal drum.

#1904629 G5 Hackintosh - First attempt

MiniHack said:I guess it also shows that, as the temp.s look good despite the cooling, the G5 case is pretty easy to keep cool... I think that at this point, its all just nit-picking. Yes, hot air rises. Yes, recirculating warm air thru multiple cooling solutions isn't ideal. I think, however, the numbers speak for themselves. jopa1200mk2 said:temps are 27-29C (If I can believe to HWMonitor app). Untitled 2.jpg We're quibbling over the direction of a fan when this guy got his HDD and SSD running under 30° while INSIDE THE PSU CASE! I think this is a job well done - regardless if this is his first build or not.

#1904626 preassembled Bluetooth boards on eBay (internal and external)

Posted Mr.D. on 07 April 2013 - 04:11 PM

Holy Expensive Price Batman! I found this one for five bucks on Amazon - and there are several reviews from people who have had success with it on a Hackintosh! I think that most people who use the Apple Bluetooth adapter want to do the work themselves, and those who want an easy solution, get a dongle like the one on Amazon. I'm not sure how much appeal this product will have.

#1904620 Does anybody make a Sandy board with S/PDIF In?

Posted Mr.D. on 07 April 2013 - 03:48 PM

something I put together from newegg: You may be better off using either a PCIe card or an external s/pdif to usb sound card, depending upon what your needs are. If you just need 44.1Khz input, cheap solutions can be found all over the web. If you need something with 48/96Khz, or more pro audio gear type equipment, check out Juli@, E-Mu, or M-Audio. I used to use M-Audio, I curently have E-Mu and I have heard very good things about Juli@. Hope this helps some! You can also check out this thread for a discussion of some of the above listed audio gear... ... and out of curiosity, what DAW software are you using? I used to use Samplitude, but have switched to Audacity due to me being cheap and not liking where Magix has taken the once great Samplitude.

Any suggestions?

Any guide worth a damn regarding snow leopard will tell you to get the retail version. This CD is available from the Apple store (not the App store, I mean you have to pick up the telephone and call them). Getting the retail version of the CD for snow leopard gives you two benefits: 1> You're legit, unlike when you use a distro, 2> You'll have an easier time customizing the install rather than trying to fix a distro that may or may not have been customized for your hardware. Once you get SL installed, you can update it to 10.6.8 and then download Lion if you wish.

Alessandro17, on , said:Great idea, especially if it gets updated regularly. We always needed something like this. Kudos! When major releases come along is when I was planning on updates, like new GPUs and new chipsets. Also, planning periodic updates for price as well. Once the other two levels are compleete, then I'll post in the new users forum a link to this thread - hopefully it'll reduce some on the repeat questions of "what's a good build for a hackintosh?" And full credit to RampageDev for knowing more than just about anybody else I know about what qualifies as a 'compatible-as-can-be' parts list. Do you know exactly which parts to get for your machine? Working on a budget? How do you know if your parts will work with OS X with minimal fuss? This thread is dedicated to helping you with your purchasing requirements! Here's how it works. RampageDev has kindly put together a pricing guide from NewEgg for three rigs at three approximate price points: Baseline, Deluxe, Ultra, and Killer. Baseline gets you a powerful rig, suitable for nearly everything you'll ever need to do on your hackintosh for day-to-day useage. Deluxe gets you more performance, and Ultra gets you into the maxed out, the top-of-the-line, and nearly all the bells-and-whistles territory. And last, but certainly not least, Killer gets you everything you could want - minus the kitchen sink! These rigs are nearly hassle free, or at least as close as you can get with OSX on PC components. Feedback is, of course, always welcome! BASELINE:  Baseline2.pdf 134.13K 72 downloads DELUXE:...

#1902099 New OS X compatible motherboard -> QUO

Posted Mr.D. on 29 March 2013 - 11:42 PM

ya know - I sent an email, after I was asked by a 'member' of the staff at Quo, asking questions about this board. If you look at all the other sites that are mentioned on their kickstarter page or their home page, its just a regurgitation of the bare bones info that they have had for months and months. I asked for more information from these guys several times. And like I said - they approached ME about writing something up. I didn't think that I asked too difficult of questions, but I never got answers - instead I got delays and the run-around. Here are the questions I asked: 1. What is your name and how are you associated with this project? 2. How long has this project been in development? 3. How many are involved in this project? 4. Where are you and your team members located? 5. Where is the board being manufactured? 6. How big will the initial run be? 7. How is the OpenSource UEFI being developed? 8. What OpenSource License are you using? 9. What testing methods...
