Diablolic my problem of slow not repair changing the fsb... i think is for a kext of the system i dont know...

the latest test does 63 in xbench, and is a core 2 duo 2.20 ghzs...

What Chipset do you have, is it 965 express like me? Is it a laptop or a desktop? I read your system description but it is not that clear what you have.

Also it is not that clear what you have tried already? Besides the kernel flags -g -y. Those only work with hacked kernels like from netkas anyway.

Did you load superhai locked 800fsb kext and see a change in system profiler?

What kernel do you have right now also? Is it netkas 9.2 SS kernel? Have you tried a different kernel? See here. That has both 10.5.1 SS kernel and 10.5.2 SS kernel.

The score of 63 in xbench is not terrible but its not the best either. You should be getting around 75 with that system at least.

Hello Diabolic

Yes my chipset is a 965... and i have read that has problems with this no? Yes i have load the AppleSMBIOS but when i load, and restart, my keyboard and mouse dont works (but yes my bluetooth mouse) and i have tested and the score is the same, the only change is the system profiler that puts the memorys as 800 Mhzs, but no the FSB, the FSB velocity already is 667...

I dont know what more do...

My chipset is 965 with ICH8. Sata II disk.

I have probed the -g, -y, -z, fsb=800, fsb=200, fsb=166 and the superhai and other dsmos, but no result...

I have tested the vanilla kernel, and actualy the neskas speedstep kernel... but my systems goes very slow...

The kernel is Neskas 9.2.0 and i have tested ToH 9.0.0 and Vanilla 9.2.0 & 9.2.2 and no result... the same

What more i can do???

I think that some kext has do that my systems go slow... i put my kext loaded here if you look something...

My system is...

Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2,20 Ghzs

3 GB DDR2 667 Ram

Intel 965 Chipset FSB 800 Mhzs

Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS 512 MB

Conexant Audio Venice

Intel 3945 Wireless

I think its your sata controller. Your hard drive is pretty slow. Look for dune ICHx kext and install that I bet that is what is lagging your system some. I had the same issue also, its enough to knock you down 10 points in xbench.

If thats not the answer I am really not sure what is. Someone else might have to chime in here with some help for you.

Hope that helps.

Hello Diabolic!

I have change de IOATAFamily.kext, and the result is the same (the disk performance has decreased a little...)

How i can do? My problem is that my score in Xbench is very slow 60 Score with an intel 965 Mobile and Core 2 Duo 2.20 Ghzs

Apple X I have run out of ideas here. I wish I could help you more.

I would recommend you find someone on this forum with the same laptop and see what they did to get it working better in OSX. If you cant find that then find someone with a laptop thats close and see if they can help you more.

Good Luck

Diabolic or Superhai.... Hoping one of you guys can shed some light for me!

I have a Pentium D dual core "Conroe" @ 1.8GHz. My RAM and moboard are running an FSB of 800MHz (I'm pretty sure the CPU is also 800MHz FSB)

In system profiler it is showing a CPU core speed of 450MHz, and a BUS speed of 200MHz.

Am I correct in thinking this is set up ok? I think the CPU multiplier is x4 - which would give me a CPU speed of 1.8GHz and an FSB of 800MHz (I think!)

Please tell me I'm right!

Would it be worth trying a hardcoded 800MHz SMBIOS? (I'm assuming you just replace the kext, and rm Extensions.kextcache ?)

Here's the output from geekbench:

Platform: Mac OS X x86 (32-bit)

Compiler: GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465)

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Build 9C7010)

Model: Hackintosh

Motherboard: FUJITSU SIEMENS MS-7293 1.00

Processor: Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80GHz

Logical Processors: 2

Processor Frequency: 450 MHz

Memory: 2.00 GB

Memory Type: 667 MHz RAM

SIMD: 1

BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG

Processor Model: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160

I've just confirmed on Intel's site that the CPU is 800MHz FSB.

But you can see that the system is reporting the RAM as 667MHz?

But you can see that the system is reporting the RAM as 667MHz?

Yeah your bus speed and CPU speed are both reporting wrong. What speed it your ram (667mhz might be right)? Do you have a windows install you can check things out there to get the real numbers. Or you can go to intels site and pull up your E2160 CPU details to get the bus speed.

Also what osx install are you using? What kernel you running? Have you tried netkas SS kernel and have you tried any of the flags listed here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=99891. Leave a comment on that topic with whatever flags helped you out.

The speed showing in system profiler might not be right yet you still may have all of your speed and performance. You would have to run geekbench in both windows and OSX and compare to see for sure. OSX should win by a little. You may also be able to fix this problem using kernel flags. If you can and you get your performance back then there is no need for a special SMBIOS. You would have to test to see. All of the flags can be added to your boot up so you dont have to keep typing them in(again see flag list). Also I would check out superhai's site for one of his SMBIOS files because i know his will at least fix your CPU speed.

Hope that helps

I also now know from looking at Intel's site that the CPU is also 800MHz FSB - that is confirmed.

I am using the sleepkernel (at least I'm pretty sure that's the one I'm running!), I used the KALYWAY 10.5.2 install. How would I know which kernel is actually runnig? - they all seemed to be installed, even though I only sleceted the sleepkernel at install.

I did think about setting the kernel flags in the boot plist - but I didn't know which switch to use!! - and pointers?

I did run the hardcoded 800MHz SMBIOS.kext earlier - but that didn't make much difference at all. The only thing I noticed was the RAM was showing as the correct speed - but no change to the CPU and BUS speed.

This is starting to do my head in!!!

I will say the machine seems to be running pretty darn quick.... I am playing Halo and using Logic Pro 8 with no issues at all.

Ok so you have a 1.8ghz cpu with 800FSB and DDR2 400mhz speed. Whatever kernel you picked during install is the one that was installed. Do a strings /mach_kernel | grep Darwin to see what kernel you are running. I find the most compatible overall is netkas 9.2.0 SS kernel. They are all installed so you can use the kernel flag that lets you tell what kernel to load to try the other ones. Or refer to kalyways docs for the same info.

The g flag is the right one to use for your 800mhz FSB speed. Also do some geekbench scores between windows and OSX and compare. I bet you have no speed loss at all. Then do them again with the g flag and see what you get. If its like my machine then youl see a 400 point boost by using the flag.

So. Even though im running an AMD Athlon X2, my "Front side bus" aka HyperTransport bus speed is reported correctly in OS X at 200MHz? cuz my HyperTransport bus is supposed to be at 2000MHz which is 200Mhz x 10 right?

I doubt you have a bus thats supposed to be 2000mhz. But you would have to check your CPU info to be sure. The best way to see if your seeing a hit from the bus speed is the compare geekbench scores in OSX to geekbench scores in windows. If you see a huge difference 200 points or more difference between OSX and windows where windows wins then you have a problem with bus most likely. Throw some flags in at start up from my list and see if the benchmarks change and by how much. Then you can add those flags in to your com.apple.boot.plist permeantly. Also leave a comment on the flags thread to show your support.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the replies Diabolic.... much appreciated.

I'm still not having much joy here... I've tried the kernel flags in the com.apple.Boot.plist - but setting them makes no change whatsoever. Strange?!

I've downloaded the latest SMBIOS.kext from mac.nub - so I'll give that a shot when I get some time later.

Can you set the kernel using the boot plist? (My keyboard is USB, and my machine doesn't power it up until after when you can set the boot args!!! - so I can't type anything before OS X starts to boot)

I'm quite sure my machine is running at the correct speed. It seems to be very close to my iMac in terms of speed etc.

Would the 200MHz BUS speed not be correct if it's just multiplied by 4, and the CPU speed is showing as 450Mhz - which multiplied by 4 is also correct.

200MHz x 4 = 800Mhz FSB

450Mhz x 4 = 1.8GHz CPU speed

Does anyone know of any Mac progs that can scan the hardware and report back like CPUZ or Aida32 in the Windoze world?

ilxMirageilx - Did you also use KALYWAY to install, or did you use iAtkos or Leo4all?

Well. My HyperTransport bus can reach speed of 2000MHz, but its default is 1000Mhz. Just wondering if it being displayed at 200MHz under Mac OS X is correct.

Well as far as I know there is no app like cpu-z for mac. Some of the info in about this mac will always be wrong because your on a pc. If you want everything to be correct in about this mac, it can be done but you have to do a lot of research and learn where the system pulls that info from.

I'll say it again. In order to know if your speed is really impacted you would have to do a benchmark in windows and one in OSX and compare them. Like for example in windows vista i was getting 2280 in geekbench and in OSX I was getting 2440. Now before I started using the g flag I was only getting 2120. So there was an impact and I could clearly see the bus was clocking wrong. However some people see no difference if they set that flag. Thats the only way to know for sure though.

@ilxmiragelix Every AMD chip is so out of any sort of standard it makes little sense to me since I dont have one. I would do the benchmarking and see the difference for yourself.

I did the benchmarks diabolic. with geekbench, I got like a 2616 in windows and a 2414 or something like that in OS X. Its basically a 200 point difference.

Which flag do you recommend?

Hi,

Take a look at the list here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=99891

I would try the g flag but you could see what one gives you the best performance by trying a few of them. You can also add them to your boot.plist once you get the one that works the best. See the list for details on this.

If you find that list valuable please add a comment for support. The mods are considering stickying that thread but it needs feedback and support.

THANKS
