Garageband basics, how do I record two tracks at the same time?

I've tried two different machines, each with it's own m-audio usb interface. I'm using the Fast Track Pro. I've tried using a mic in one input, and a keyboard software instrument in another. Only the selected track will record, even though they are both enabled for recording. Before hitting record, I only get to monitor the selected track as well. I've tried two mics, one in each input, with one selected in each track, and I get the same results.

OK, I got it now. Even though the track is greyed out, it can still be enabled for recording by clicking on the red dot. I have the m-audio fast track pro and it tested out fine on my laptop. I had two mics on channels 1 and 2, and then on 3 and 4 I plugged in a DVD player that had spdif out. I was able to record those four tracks plus a keyboard at the same time in GB, awesome! Unfortunately when 3 and 4 and enabled in the driver, the resolution drops to 16 bit from 24 bit.
