How to 'clean' OS X installation to restore to 'original' state?

Hi all,

Because our computers have some issues with DVD drives, I am going to try to install 8f1099 on my friend's laptop using a clone of my installation on an external hard drive. I already use Carbon Copy Cloner and "bless -folder /Volumes/EXTERNAL/System -setBoot" to make a bootable image (it works), so I figure now I can install Darwin on his computer, boot from the external hard drive, and then restore it using Disk Utility onto the Darwin partition. (This will work, right? Although slowly - USB1.1)

Anyways, I've been using this installation for months, so it's got lots of stuff on it. I want to clean it off to make it as "fresh" as possible. What steps should I take, besides the obvious ones that I've listed below?

- delete user folder

- reset root password

- delete (undesired) applications

Also, he currently has an NTFS partition that we'll delete to install Darwin. Once we delete that partition using PartitionMagic, can the Darwin installer make a partition for itself? If not, how do I create an AF partition, since there's no Windows installation on that computer?

Thanks for the help
