i was looking around the internet for a way to make a simple bootable leopard OSX on a USB drive (much like the installation DVD except on a USB instead) and insert my own diagnostics tools and application (such as idefrag and drive genius) to use on my internal leopard drive.

however, my search has been in vain as some users have reported that apple has not released the necessary details to make such a thing.

does anyone know of an application that might be able to help me accomplish this task?

even better if someone could point me towards the right direction in finding out more.

Note: i have visited the live osx part of the forum

Thanks in advance guys!!

Even though this refers to OSx86, I think it's still relevant here. I managed to restore an OSx86 ISO to a partition on an external (USB) hard disk using Disk Utility and make it bootable.

For OSx86 booting, I had to copy the initial bootloader (boot1h file) to the partition boot sector and run startupfiletool, which, of course, probably isn't necessary for booting on a Mac. I can't say for sure what the Mac EFI would need in order to boot from the volume.

thanks you guys...

i know i can restore the installation dvd onto my usb drive, however, ideally thats not what i intend to do.

i was hoping to make a bootable (simple) version of osx leopard with my OWN diagnostic utilities such as idefrag and drive genius on it. Furthermore, i dont have an 8gb usb flash drive, i need something protable so space is a constraint.

thanks for the feedback so far!!
