pluggulp
Using 10.4.3 Build 8f1111 on a board with SiS964 southbridge the hard drive performance for parallel ATA is rather dismal and the second parallel ATA port doesn't work at all. On boot-up, the system loads the Generic ATAPI driver kext. As I understand, the bad performance is due to the fact that UltraDMA is not supported by the generic ATAPI driver. Is there driver that would give better performance, maybe from the Darwin project ? Or is the SiS ATAPI controller compatible to another controller for which a driver exists (such that the issue could be solved by adding the device id in the kext's .plist file ?). Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
lanbo
I have exactly the same problem with a SIS 648 chipset. Perhaps there exists a common solution for both problems. Some people managed to modiffy some drivers to make them work on their ATI chipset. Could be that some linux geek may know where we could start from. I'll be waiting for more comments.
