blkblt
Think about it. Who: 1) Is a genius smart enough to hack all the protections with superhuman ability? 2) Stands to gain the most from Apple's OS being installable on vanilla computers, thus removing profit from Apple? Answer: Bill Gates! /blkblt

R. Bear Helms
I don't discount some anti-Apple party funding Maxxuss' efforts... ...But most Microsoft (ex)employees are quick to tell you Bill Gates thinks he's a hot programmer, always has to mess with your code to "improve" it - but in reality is a chump. Next bizarre quirk or complication Windows throws at you, if it's a part of the OS itself and not some 3rd-party driver or application, there's a good chance you have Bill Gates to thank for that. He is a control freak who can't let a single DLL get compiled without him messing with SOMETHING in its source code. Maybe he has a secret back door... conspiracy theorists, start your engines! One could say that Linus Torvalds was someone on Apple's payroll meant to de-throne Microsoft off the server market. Or whomever was behind Apache... I know an Apple developer who's been abreast of OSx86 for 5 years. They started tooling up for Intel processors that long ago. If Maxxuss has had hands-on the dev releases for this amount of time and only last year has he released patches to make it work on any x86, that's actually pretty slow progress imo. In either case, it does show a very dedicated hacker ethic. Apple fears the cracking of OSx86 for general PC use, to be sure. They'd not have a leg to stand on asking what they charge for hardware that can't perform as well as a custom-built PC for $500. Their TPM is a very nasty bit of hardware, and too Orwellian for me to allow into any computing device I care to use or buy.

Answer: Bill Gates! /blkblt Wouldn't Apple's OS running on vanilla computers also hurt M$'s profits too? Many people would simply buy Apple's OS rather than Windows if that were possible. M$ was probably much happier with Apple running on Apple hardware, less competition is always good for profits. Either way, Apple had to have seen it coming. So far no copy protection has yet to be defeated. If enough people, or even a few highly skilled people want it done, it will eventually be done. I doubt if there will ever be an uncrackable copy protection. And as already said, Bill Gates is certainly not what I'd consider a programming genius. Maybe a genius when it comes to business though, as it will take some good marketing to get people to buy Vista. We'll see when it's released.
