qbattersby
Hello, So this is the problem, I cannot receive email through my school email POP3 server in OSX, it works fine in Parallels and on a Windows machine. I have tried Mail, Thunderbird and Entourage none work, and all of my other POP3 email accounts on other servers work. It just gives me a timeout error, I do believe it requires me to authenticate a certificate as that would always pop up in Outlook 2007, does anyone have an idea how I can make this work? I would ask the techs at school but they are absolutely out of it, they would ask well why don't you just use webmail? Thanks for any help in advance, qbattersby
hecker
What email application are you using in OSX?
qbattersby
I have tried Apple Mail, Thunderbird, and Entourage 2008. I am currently using Entourage for all my email.
hecker
I use Thunderbird for OSX. It has a certificate manager (under menu preferences->advanced) where you can configure the way certificates are accepted and handled. Give that a try and tell me how it went. Cheers, hecker
gabe_
Thunderbird should present you with a pop-up giving you the option to accept or deny the certificate as soon as you attempt to connect to the server. I don't use the other mail clients mentioned, but I would have to assume that they would do the same thing. I assume you are using Outlook in Windows? Are you SURE it's a pop3 server, and not an exchange server, or an exchange clone of some sort that requires an Outlook plugin? Secondly, when you login to Windows are you using a login/password provided by your school?
qbattersby
Hey, I'm nearly positive it is a POP3 server, I am trying receive mail at home, and it does not require a plugin, it worked fine if I just setup the server info in Windows (even in Parallels). Everytime I try to receive mail from it on the mac it just times out, and I have extended the time for timeout with no luck.
chris2k
Check this out: http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/ma...shoot.html#imap Never done this, so i dont know how much it will tell. If that doesnt work, you could run a packetsniffer, e.g. wireshark and see whats coming through and what not.
qbattersby
chris2k> thanks for the link, i have removed thunderbird and need to stick with entourage now, I have way to much data in it (calendars, contacts, emails) I know I can export but I would ultimately just like to be able to make it work in Entourage. It is not the end of the world because I can always just use WebMail, but I really am not keen on it.
