now i got my iphone and played about two weeks ....

and i recognised, that there are really some features missing.

i wonder what features you are missing.

this is what i found out:

* the most s*rewed up thing is that the iphone doesn´t work with isync on a mac / hackintosh... i tested with bluetooth. every cheap cellphone can be synced with BT and isync, but not THE IPHONE? what did apple think when they decided not to build in that support? it´s as if mercedes new top product is a car stereo that doesn´t work in mercedes cars!

* bluetooth itself su*ks in any way. it´s not compatible with every 3rd party hardware at all, i tested with my hands-free system in my car. okay, i understand that apple wants to sell their own hardware, but as long as they dont´t build car stereos with hands free support, this is just stupid. bluetooth standards are made for the compatibility between products to enhance their useability. apple does not use these standards.

* okay, i knew that before i bought that phone: UMTS/3G is missing. but this is really soooo yesterday.. okay, hopefully its coming this year.

* no way to send a MMS. this is a standard feature in all nokia cellphones i had in the last years... stupid not to build it in.

what else do you miss?

Posts like this seems to be a constant ringing (no iPhone pun intended) in my ear. What features are missing, what is the best feature... ect...

Just use the damn phone!

Most things can be solved with a simple JailBreak, and /or the SDK, when the devs get it...

hm, your post is neither useful nor is it right.

the things i mentioned cannot be solved with jailbreaking. yet.

also i did not see a thread about collecting peoples issues on what they are missing.

if many people agree on missing the same things, its a point on what may be inproved by apple or may be a inspiration for people like me to code solutions for common problems.

if you don´t like posts like mine, then just don´t reply.

I think my most irritating issue is that the iPhone does't record video.

And that the sound isn't loud enough.

I don't get it, why has apple put in a 2MP camera and not just 5MP like the Viewty.

If apple did that then they had an even bigger advantage over the other company's that are trying to ripp-off the iPhone.

And please Apple put some more bass into your speaker.

(This is just my opinion, and don't get me wrong i DO have an iPhone and I am very happy with it, and I think Apple has delivered a great product)

I have to agree with mark up there, all phones have there flaws. Unless you are going to create your own phone company and build your own phones then stop complaining. Its one of the most revolutionary devices of the century! Enjoy it people!

Install ShowTime to record video. With regards to the speaker, well its pretty small and unless they have space for a waveguide its going to stay that way( headphones upgrade would be better). A 5MP camera would be nice, I agree.

I guess all the other features, 3G, 5mp cam, etc etc are reserved for iPhone2.

Uh.. yeah.. I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there...

Current iPhone != 3G

And you're going to have to happen to be wrong.

Although technically a 3G network technology, it is generally classified as the unofficial standard 2.75G, due to its slower network speed.**

EDGE is a 3G technology offering a common migration path and convergence for GSM and TDMA operators

GRPS, which is the exact same data rate as GSM, is 2G. EDGE stands for Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution. It is a faster (much faster, comparatively) network than GRPS, bringing the speeds into 3G range. Though, no where near as fast as HSDPA/UMTS, it's still a 3G network.

**Note: You'll see that the article lists EDGE in the 2G column and that some speeds of EDGE are in the 2G range. However, AT&T and others of similar companies use the EDGE speeds (approximately 486kbps) in the 3G range. There's also a reason the AT&T SIM in the iPhone has a big "3G" on it. To give you a common comparison, Verizon's EVDO standard ranges anywhere from 350kbps to 1.4mbps and is 3G.

EDGE is not 3G (although it's called like that on occasion). It's 2.5G.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.5G

The 486kbps you refered to is rarely the case and I myself usualy never get more then 120-200 kbps, even in big cities. UMTS and HSDPA can provide the true 3G speeds.

There is no such thing as 2.5G. It's an unofficial standard. Officially, it is 3G.

While the terms "2G" and "3G" are officially defined, "2.5G" is not. It was invented for marketing purposes only.

Come on! Right now it is not 3G whatever people say.

Oh, ok, so you say it, that means you're right and everyone is wrong?

Well, it's not 3G anymore. The FCC recently re-defined the term "broadband" to mean any speed over 768Kbps from the original, which was over 300Kbps. AT&T's EDGE was at 468Kbps, which fit the limits of broadband and could be dubbed 3G.

Well, it's not 3G anymore.

Why are you arguing something that you know is wrong? But, if your points had some validity, what people call "EDGE" is still much slower than the "3G" technology, and that is what people are talking about.

iPhone is missing one important thing. A good Personal Information Management (PIM)

What? no To Do List?

What? Same Color and no categorize of events in Calendar?

Sync like a mess with iCal?

O. No Sync with Memos?

Opps... don't forget scroll down to search a single contact in phone book.

Come on Apple. I just want a good PIM to replace my treo. I don't want to use 3rd party applications for functions that a smart phone should have built in.

  • 4 months later...

I would like a search for the calendar. (or any other part of the phone)

The ability to find an appointment that i had 6 months ago by searching a keyword would be so helpful.

This is something my 5 year old Palm PDA does very well. (but i don't want to carry 2 devices)

After i jail-broke my phone i did install an app that did this, but then i stupidly updated my iphone firmware to 2.0. After i removed the apple "update" and set my phone back up i can't find this app. Was it removed? or am i blind?

Any info about this will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not wrong. I've provided clear and concrete evidence as to why I'm right. I haven't seen you try and prove me otherwise with the same kind of evidence. True, what people call EDGE is much slower than what people call 3G. However, only GSM carriers call it "3G." The correct term for 3G GSM is HSPA, CDMA is EVDO. Calling it "3G" is merely a marketing ploy by phone carriers. The ITU, as of yet, still hasn't decategorized EDGE from the 3G area, so technically, it's 3G. You can argue this all you want. The fact is, you're wrong, and I've displayed clear and precise points as to how I'm right.
