munky Posted February 26, 2008 Share Posted February 26, 2008 Archive and Install will preserve your data. It moves the previous System folder into a folder called Previous System. It can optionally preserve your Home directory, your settings and your data. You sound like you've never done an Archive and Install. I recommend it. However, I've never had a problem doing the upgrade install from 10.2 to 10.4. Most likely, the same applies from 10.3 to 10.5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
macgirl Posted May 6, 2008 Share Posted May 6, 2008 If Mac OS cannot take settings from pevious install it will warn you. If you backed up you can even "upgrade" if something goes bad. I did that with my AMD RIG from 10.4.10 to 10.5. Of course on hacks there is more risk, so sometimes "clean" installation is preferable, but as munky said archive and install is still "clean".
