TheDon Posted February 22, 2008 Share Posted February 22, 2008 1520 users, we all know that Wireless doesnt work on our laptops in OSX because its a Intel 3945 card. And we know that Dell's 1490 supposedly works out the box? So I had the idea that since it only cost 20 bucks, Id bite the bullet and buy a 1490 mini card for my Inspiron and swap out the Intel one for this one. Well I got it today and as soon as I get home Ill put it in. Does anybody think it should work right away with my already built OSX or will I have to reinstall or add some kexts? I just took out the Intel, put in the Dell, started it up and there was the wifi thing on the top status bar. Clicked it... Oh by the way, there are 3 mini slots on our laptop. The middle one is for wifi but you can put a mini card in either of the 3. I put my intel in the one normally used for the WLAN phone type connection and it works there too. Plugged into the antenna cables provided, you can have 2 wireless nic cards. So Im putting my intel back for when I use my laptop in vista back in the normal spot. And the Dell one in the telephone slot. lastly the Dell 1490 is way less powerful then the intel one. I almost loose the signal just going to my backyard. limo Posted February 24, 2008 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Hi there! i have a dell inspiron 6400 laptop and i installed kalyway dvd 10.5.1 and was successful. wireless worked great so did the sound but i can nor hear any thing. i can see the sound button on the top right hand corner yet no sound. please any help or links to any post in regards to dell laptops. also some help with video graphic. i see the settings in video adaptor saying.
