THIS IS A BREAK-THRU

I have a set of patched files that will allow DVD PLAYER to work with "SSE2" instruction set.

THIS WILL WORK IN ANY VERSION TIGER

***EDIT*** THIS WILL ALSO WORK IN LEOPARD

I will post a complete install guide upon request.

Desktop & Portables!

I need someone to help make an installer package that will do the work instead of manually installing the patched files.

I am not sure if this is compatible with AMD system's.... I work with INTEL.

NEED AMD TESTER'S

*EDIT* AMD tested and is compatible!

Can this be made a sticky?

*EDIT* Lowest compatible cards:

ATI 9550

GMA 900

GeForce FX 5200

P.S. This information is from feedback only. If you don't have one of these cards or higher, I still encourage you to try.

DVDPlayback.zip

AppleVADriver.bundle.zip

Hmmmm..... That is weird.

What processor is he/she working with?

I ask because DVDPlayer.app uses heavy SSE3 instruction set.

What version Tiger is he/she running?

Is he/she using VLC?

Since it has been requested I am going to write a step by step to get these files working for all of you.

First: It is a MUST that you DL both files in order for this to work.

Second: Once you have obtained both files we can get started.

Ok, let's start with replacing the AppleVADriver.bundle:

If you are a terminal person, disreguard, as you already should know what is to be done in order to replace files and set permissions

Navigate your way to /System/Library/ and send Extensions.mkext/kextcache to the trash.

Next, go to /System/Library/Extensions/.

Copy the new AppleVADriver.bundle to your extensions folder.

Click authenticate.(enter password if neccessary)

Click replace.

Now, navigate to /System/Library/Frameworks/DVDPlayback.framework/Version/A/ and send DVDPlayback to the trash.

Copy the new DVDPlayback file into the /A/ folder.

Click authenticate.(enter password if neccessary)

Now, open Disk Utility and repair permissions.

Reboot

Once your back in OS X throw a DVD Movie into your rom and enjoy flawless DVD Playback!!!

I don't know much about SSE2 with Leopard as I am working with Tiger.

Leopard has alot of stock emulators built into the OS itself.

These file's only pertain to Tiger and SSE2 processors.

Let me know how you made out.

I'm not really seeing any improvements--but I blame that on my setup, not your files. I'm running an ATI 7500 (32MBs RAM) video card with Rogabean's hack for getting the Quartz Extreme graphics running. If I were running a better supported video card I think I'd see a difference.

Thanks for the effort though!

Yeah that card is not up to par i will say.

DVDPlayer will render playback but your card will render the video very pixelated.

LOL...I say! :)

Hmmm...pixelated?? Once I added your files I stopped getting ANY image--pixelated or not. All I get now is a black screen with lots of CPU use and great audio...

I have a Compaq EVO N610c with a Radeon Mobility 7500 in it.

I have the heavy CPU (what I call pixilation) code running across the DVD Player screen, with some tolerable video, and great sound.

That's how I know what your talking about....haha

However at least you know the patched files work, just not with a 7500.

The lowest end ATI card for OS X is the 9550. You would be good there.

Problem is do not use theese files with a powermanagment.bundle main to use for tiger & Laptops. It gives u a blank screen.

Can you elaborate your work, how & what have you patched ? or are you fooling us ?

THX. keep up the good work.

It is very important that you set file permissions and repair permissions correctly.

I have successfully used these files with SSE2 laptop's using powermanagement.bundle patches.

How do you know the files are conflicting with a power bundle?

AppleVADriver.bundle has nothing to do with powermanagement.

Sorry you have experienced this issue.

sweet, works great, thanks for the help
That's great. ;) Miguelcerca, are you using your onboard GMA 900?If so I will add it to the compatibility sheet.
i know becouse powermanagment is in use with display option and Quartz video. i tryed with 3 diffrent SSE2 computer & sse2 laptop.
Hmmmmmm....... That's strange.I have two SSE2 boxes that it work's flawless on.I also have a Sony VAIO lappy with SSE2 and powermanagement.bundle patch for battery, and DVDPlayer.app is flying with these files applied. You are using powermanagement.bundle on a desktop pc???Please post your hardware spec's.

G'day Slinger2g,

Your solution works perfectly on my system:

Acer Veriton 5600G

P4 HT @ 2.8 GHz

2 GB RAM

OS X 10.4.11(uphuck 10.4.9 install)

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (recognised as Radeon 9600 AR by System Profiler)

Callisto 0.8

Thanks so much for the files - the only 'fly in the ointment' in an otherwise fully functioning Hackintosh!

You're a dead set legend.

Mike
