a5c Posted February 12, 2008 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Updated using the method described on the netkas website. Updated worked! But it broke my mouse and keyboard, usb mouse works though. Reinstalling now. *Note: I backed up and overwrote the appleHDA.kext as suggested, I got error messages on boot and mouse and keyboard didn't work. I ran the patcher again(and the rest of the netkas steps) without overwriting my appleHDA.kext. Errors went away, but mouse and keyboard(and sound) still didn't work. *Another note: I'm using Core 2 duo on a GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

February 11, 2008 How to update to 10.5.2 February 11th 2008 Posted to Apple, Leopard, pc efi UPDATE: doesn;’t work with software update, need to have dmg/pkg. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/mac...omboupdate.html Open Terminal/Finder/etc, go to System/Library/Extensions. start installing update. Monitor System/Library/Extensions folder, once AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext appears there - remove it immideatly. u can use this little script for it, run as root, before starting upgrade while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done once update finished, press ctrl-c in terminal window, to stop script, don’t press restart ! after it, open this file in textedit - /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 find there string /System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext and replace with this string /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext or r3d3 if u use r3d3. then save it. now u can recover ur applesmbios/applehda/etc (didn;’t u forget to make backups b4 running update ?) and finaly press restart. on first start it will do smth, without booting to gui, then it will reboot, it can take about 3-4 mins, then it shuld boot normaly, if u didn;t forget smth. of course it’s all for intel core 2 based cpus and intel mobos. and pc_efi. Option A is unreliable. Use option b. Option A ) While the patcher is running watch the System/Library/Extensions folder, as soon as AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext appears there, delete it. Option B ) Running a script to do it automatically, before you run the patcher: 1) Save "while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done" into a PLAIN TEXT DOCUMENT (textedit>(menubar)format>make plain text) (I saved it to the desktop) 2) In terminal run "sudo bash /path/to/script" (You can drag the file into the terminal and it will fill in the path) 3) The script should delete the file when it is created. (You might be asked for your password before it runs.) 4) Run the patcher. After the patcher is done, it is safe to close the terminal. You might want to check and make sure it deleted the file. Just to be safe. Changing the line 1) After the patcher finishes, before you restart: 2) Run in terminal "sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1" (You have to run the TextEdit executable inside the textedit.app application in order to sudo it) 3) Find(CurlyQ + f) "/System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext" 4) Replace with "/System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext" 5) Save the file 6) Restart 7) The Mac will first do a kind of "smth"(Or something) on the first boot. After the check it's supposed to boot, but if it doesn't (it didn't for me) It'S okay! Just to a hard shut down (For me that's holding down the power button for 5 seconds or until it turns off) and turn it back on. This time it will do a normal boot. Note: Netkas warns: "of course it’s all for intel core 2 based cpus and intel mobos. and pc_efi. other users can use 10.5.1 kernel/system.kext with 10.5.2 system (like amd users or pentium-d)" Hope this helps, I'm really not an expert, but this (sorta) worked for me. I didn't realize that the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext would load like instantly the first time, so I borked an install but I was able to recover all my personal stuff via TimeMachine (thankfully!). The second time, I created the script and ran it while installing, force-quit the installer, and did the sudo textedit thing and rebooted. I rebooted with -v to see that it got to a MACH reboot and stalled (which is the "something" you referred to) and so I rebooted and now I'm posting from 10.5.2. Just consider using the script to delete AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext during patching, I tried by tracking the Extensions folder which caused me a kernel panic. First boot after patch had to be done in safe boot (F8 at startup, -x -v and enter), installed the leopard graphics update and everything is fully functional now.
