Type of installation : terminal with Apple retail dvd with 10.5.8 Update, Chameleon_2.0_RC4_r684 .

You've got a working Leopard install (also on a real mac) and you install to another sata, usb or firewire disk
you 've to set the BIOS to nothing but optimized defaults, HPET enabled, AHCI, and USB priority boot enabled in order to boot from USB device (as reminder; F2 for bios, F10 for boot selection)

-Format your disk; Open Disk Utility format the disk with guid,

-Install Leopard ; mount Apple retail DVD & open terminal

open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

-download 10.5.8 combo update & install

-install Chameleon_2.0_RC4_r684_bin, and Intel82566MM.kext.dec09.zip in System/Library/Extentions to get working Ethernet

-put this Extentions.mkext in "Extra" folder

-put this dsdt .aml in "Extra" folder

-then open terminal and flag the second partition of your disk (until it's write unused, this is the most important and strange to me as i don't need this step with others boards i tried)

Everything working and perfect Wake & Sleep, Reboot, Shutdown.
No OC with this board but it is higtly compatible with Leopard

I already own a mac running 10.5.2. Is there a way I can copy that to work on my Intel DQ965GF board? I have been trying using Kalyway but have had no luck so far. My dvd drive is IDE, can that be a problem? My HD is sata and is already formatted GUID.

I have a DG965WH, Intel 6420 processor, 4 GB memory, I tried with Kalyway 10.5.2, Leo4allv3final and BrasilMac, but I couldnt. I let plugged just one sata drive for install (fat 32 formatted), and unplugged any other card so to let audio and video from motherboard, keyboard and mouse are USB both, my internal DVD is IDE (sony).

 

The booting stops at " extension com.apple.driver.PCIConfigurator has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components,use only one style", with all 3 DVD (burneds with 3 differents programs in 2 different OS, Ubuntu and windows xp, Brasero, CD creator 9 and Nero)

 

 

In other essays, with other BIOS settings I had  "waiting for boot volume with UUID 669.....etc" and also stopped at "BSM auditing problems", you can see this at http://picasaweb.google.com/JavierXIV/HackintoshProblems.

 

I tried differents BIOS settings, putting AHCI instead of RAID, etc, always stopped and freeze the PC. I also use an external DVD and exactly the same error, same with differents boot options at f8, -x -v -s -legacy cpus=1 NOACPI......

 

Can you tell me wich bios settings have you changed?

 

What options to choose at f8???

 

Anything else that can help me to install??, please please I have 2 months with it, reading posts, trying....

Wake & Sleep Reboot Shutdown are working with an Apple keyboard (only need to refresh DHCP after wake or set to DHCP with manual adress)

 

No OC with this board but it is higtly compatible with Leopard

I had a lot of trouble with the DQ965GF board not booting DVD until I put a video card into it. It seems the gma3000 and OS X just don't like each other, even in VESA mode.

I just got it working on my DQ965GF. I have a Geforce 8800 GT card by ECS. I used Kalyway 10.5.2. I have a SATA DVD drive and SATA HDD.

 

Step one: Set BIOS to AHCI for SATA drive configuration

 

Step two: install Vista, partition drive in two partitions, NTFS and NTFS (will be blown away later. But OSX install can't create partitions on a partitioning system started by vista, so the second one must be created now)

 

Finish install of Vista

 

Step three: Set bios to IDE for SATA config

 

Step four: Insert Kalyway and begin install, press enter at boot menu to use stock options

 

Step five: Select the right video card driver, vanilla kernel and whatever else

 

Step six: Finish install

 

Step seven: Reboot, change SATA back to AHCI

 

Step eight: I used Norton Ghost to fix the MBR to flag the Vista as the bootable partition again so Vista boots once again, but maybe you can use Vista command line to fix the MBR and flag the partition?

 

Step nine: Install EasyBCD. Add a boot config for OSX in EasyBCD (in the version I have it has a parameter for what hard drive to boot OSX from and I could only choose C: and BOOT, but I just left it at C: and it works somehow)

 

Reboot: you get the EasyBCD configured Vista bootloader, I select OSX and I then suddenly I am looking at the OSX bootloader. I have to select OSX again from there, and suddenly OSX boots and I finish the install. Once into the environment disable the system update because it totally screws up the machine.

 

If someone can figure out how to bypass OSX's boot menu so I don't have two boot menus, please let me know

Can't tell you with Vista and OSX, but I've installed 3 OS in one HD, in the order XP, Ubuntu (linux) and OSX with Kalyway. And the end the GRUB (linux) makes all the work smooth, You just have to edit it putting the adress of each one (HD# and partition #). It's very easy but you may not want Linux, however, I've worked with all 3 OS, and my preferences are by far Ubuntu even if I have to go to windows sometimes for some usefuls programs. OSX in last, because it doesn't work well, I've still don't have audio and the pointer of my mouse makes artifacts on the screen.

If it is of some help,one of my problems was mail, so I Use Mozilla thunderbird because you find it in all 3 OS, and I put the folders in one shared partition, so I can get my mail from any of them (yoy have to edit the preferences in each OS), the address book is stil not fixed.

iam trying to install os x ipc 10.5.6 on this mobo, but without any success,
if i install it with vanilla 9.6.0 kernel the bootup screen says something about acpi and stops, if i install 9.5.0 voodoo the kernel stops a few lines earlier!
is everyone who has successfully installed os x using an extra graphics card?

I couldn;t install ideneb 10.5.5 (which has an upgrade to 10.5.6) in the 965, tired of everything I installed again Kalyway 10.5.2 and I stand there for the moment, waiting for better days for hackintosh. I won't spend more time (and I did spend a lot) looking for kexts to resolve audio problems, newtwork problems, mouse and display problems, etc.

I've spent almost a year on and off trying to get the DQ965GF working well with OSX86, trying Kalyway, iATKOS and the Vanilla install using aliab's method mentioned at the top of this post (thanks aliab for all the tips). I just couldn't get the Vanilla install to work properly and iATKOS, although it worked well, gave me various annoying issues like iTunes Smart Playlists crashing iTunes, Terminal not saving its settings.

 

I'd pretty much given up and decided to scrap the whole idea of running OSX86 but then came upon a post about "Smart Playlists" not crashing in the iPC version of OSX86. So I installed it and it works perfectly on the DQ965GF so far! No "Smart Playlists" crashing, Terminal works perfectly, actually no issues at all! It appears to be a pretty much Vanilla install too and has so far been rock solid.

 

Here's the summary instructions to install on the DQ965GF (there's lots of detailed articles about generic installs):

I use a SATA DVD drive, not sure it will boot on an IDE one (had problems with other releases).

My hardware: DQ965GF, Core 2 Quad, Nvidia 7900GS, DGE-528T LAN card (RTL8169 based).

 

You need the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 PPF5 installation DVD.

 

Boot with the iPC DVD and select the following Customization options, by default nothing is selected:

• Kernel:None (it installs the Vanilla kernel)
  
• Video: None (7900GS drivers are built-in, just use EFI Studio to add that after the install)
  
• Audio: Sigmatel Audio/9227
  
• Chipset:Intel ICHx SATA
  
• Network: None. (I use an RTL8169 based board which has inbuilt drivers, I've tried the DQ965s 82566DM drivers in the past but the power management didn't work.)
  
• Fixes & Patches:Dual Boot Time Sync, Shutdown/Restart Fix
  
• DSDT Patches: Patch DSDT
  
• AppleSMBIOS Patch: AppleSMBIOSEFI
  
• Applications: All
  

That's all!

 

Depending on your disk layout, you may need to activate your OS X partition so you can boot from it, as follows:

Post Installation:

IMPORTANT setting: If using a SATA DVD drive you need to switch off the spin down in the Energy Saver as this causes issues with the DVD drive reguarly disconnecting, reconnecting & eject issues. Once switched off it has so far worked perfectly for me.

 

If you have booting problems you can boot from the iPC installation DVD and it automatically boots from your Hard Disk installation, don't press anything at the Darwin boot loader prompt though. There's lots of articles about booting and dual boot issues.

Installation Instructions for Snow Leopard 10.6.

 

Hardware Requirements:

• I'm not using any IDE interfaces only SATA for the Hard Drives and DVD Drives so this method may not work for IDE DVD drives. Also make sure AHCI is enabled in the BIOS!
  

Installation Steps:

• First you need to get a Vanilla install of Snow Leopard on a new partition so you need to install Snow Leopard from the original DVD using some other Mac/hackintosh installation to the new hard drive partition for the hackintosh. Alternatively I've included a BootCD ISO (from BootCDMaker) for this motherboard which should allow you to install directly from the Retail Snow Leopard DVD.
  
• Make sure the new partition is activated (use fdisk -e /dev/rdisk{number})
  
• Compile a DSDT using the defaults using the DSDT patcher (DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e.zip). The resultant DSDT.aml should be copied into /Extras/ on the new partition. (Not sure this is really needed and can be done later too, shouldn't cause boot failures without)
  
• Install Chameleon RC3+
  
• Overwrite /boot file (in the new partition) with the Netkas PCI EFI 10.5 boot file (http://netkas.org/?cat=5)
  
• Copy the attached Extensions.zip files to /Extra/Extensions/ (in the new partition), the files are NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext, fakesmc.kext). BUT NOT SleepEnabler.kext yet until after upgrading to 10.6.2!
  
• Install the attached kexts.zip using (Kext Helper b7.zip), they'll go into /System/Library/Extensions/ (in the new partition)
  
• You can use a customised "com.apple.Boot.plist" in /Extras/ if you want but it isn't required.
  
• Boot the new installation, using "-f -v"
  
• Now simply update all the software using "Software Update", (remember when booting to use "-f")
  
• Once you're happy that 10.6.2 has been installed OK, install SleepEnabler.kext to /Extra/Extensions/.
  

That should be it! The new netkas fakesmc.kext fixes a lot of stuff and requires less patching of the OS, also it means there's no need for extra smbios files anymore.

 

Important Notes:

• VERY IMPORTANT: when updating the SleepEnabler.kext can give problems, so simply remove it when updating and get the latest version from netkas.org. Otherwise it can cause the kernel to panic on boot!
  
• Switch off "Hard disk sleep" in the system preferences. I've found it causes random disconnection issues with the DVDROM/Writer drive.
  
• Make sure you have a an active LAN interface using the name "en0" otherwise Time Machine won't work properly.
  
• The Intel LAN drivers currently have problems using 1Gig LAN speeds, I can only get it to connect at 100MBits.
  
• The VoodooHDA drivers for the internal sound hardware have problems after coming out of standby giving crackly sound. I use a USB sound card (very cheap one) anyway so this isn't a problem for me.
  
• I suggest you boot using the 32-bit kernel, Chameleon boots into 64-bit by default for some bizarre reason. Use "-x32" in the boot options. 64-bit kernel is really not required (really only for servers) and 32-bit kernel will be more compatible with older software. 32-bit kernel still runs 64-bit software fine.
  

I've been using this for months without any problems. Sleep & Wake work perfectly.

Is there anyway to "undo" the flagging from terminal? I have 2 drives from my ASUS P5w DH that I tried to use with my DQ965GF. 1 is an IDE drive that I'm using with a SATA adapter and the other is a SATA drive. I put the drive into the DQ965 and using terminal, I flagged the drive as per the instructions. The IDE works fine but when I did the SATA drive, I skipped the fdisk: 1> p . I rebooted and tried again and followed it exactly but when I restart, I get the grey apple screen with a message telling me I have to restart. Does anyone know what I can do? Thanks for your help.

I'm still using this old 'board, still works great for me with a Quad CPU and is still solid as a rock. Here's some updates to keep it working nicely with 10.6.4.

 

The M/B Intel LAN drivers now look to be mature, use these ones AppleIntelE1000e

They support 1 Gig bit network automatically and resume/sleep without problems. There are other drivers around but non I've tried work as well as these.

 

10.6.4 & 10.6.3 broke USB with this motherboard (and many others apparently) with resume/sleep & various USB problems. I'm guessing a good DSDT may fix this but that's far too much effort. Too fix it simply replace the /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext with the 10.6.2 version.

I was experiencing a number of problems resuming from standby with Netkas's PCI EFI 10.5, it seemed to get worse since upgrading from OSX 10.6.2. I've now installed Chameleon RC5 r518 and the resume problems appear to have gone away.

 

Update: Actually the problem appears to be caused when running in 32-bit compatibility mode ("arch=i386") and using VMWare Fusion. Running in 64bit mode (which Chameleon defaults to) produces perfect standby/resume. Wake timer works properly too.

I HAD GOT SNOW ON THIS motherbarod but when i booted in safe it was fine but in normal i kept getting kernel panics does anyboady know why?? (turn off your computer screen)

everything worked oob but graphic and audio so just add an inexpensive usb 5.1 sound card c-media chip and a 8400gs nvidia

install chameleon and kexts in SLE with champlist and follow post #1 of this topic in order to make system disk active (plug in sata 0)

Everything is good, except integrate intel card and IDE DVDplayer(not problem for this)

I really need help, is there some kext or patch for these.

I tried lots, but i had problem on boot or kernel panic...
