How to enable all SATA channels on P5B in leopard

I installed using the KALYWAY DVD today. For some reason, Leopard refuses to enable my 3rd and 4th SATA channels.

I have a conjecture as to why.

I have the the cheap version of the P5B mobo (just called P5B), which has 4 SATA AHCI channels. Confusingly, the channel names are numbered 0, 1, 4, 5. Which suggest that the ICH8 chipset supports 6, but somehow the middle 2 got disabled.

When linux boots, it tells me something like:

ata1: WD1500 ...

ata2: WD740 ...

ata3: DUMMY

ata4: DUMMY

ata5: WD2500 ...

ata6: WD2500 ...

Does Leopard not know to try to look for 6 channels of SATA, instead of stopping at number 4? Has anyone else been able to get all SATA channels working in this configuration?

I did some googling and read a couple more posts on this forum. It seems that no one else has gotten it to work yet...

Further googling revealed that an earlier version of Linux also had the same problem, that the SATA driver would stop probing for disks as soon as it sees the dummies. This was fixed in a later version of Linux.

I wonder what we have to change in the kernel to get all AHCI channels enabled...
