O2Micro FireWire OHCI problem

I have a problem here: I got a HackBook that came with a O2Micro OHCI FW chip, however it doesn't work. My AMD machine with a TI OHCI FW chip works fine. On system profiler under FireWire on the notebook it says: "The FireWire drivers aren't loaded" in red. What should I do?

(Optional)Any hope that the SM56 will work some day? All kexts are PowerPC, so this is a problem. Also how can I get my integrated O2Micro card reader to work? I have the IDs reported from Reggie SE/lspci/Device Manager:

SD Host: ven 1217 dev 7120

MS Mass Storage controller: ven 1217 dev 7130

I'm not certain, maybe the dev-ids are changed... maybe sd host dev 7130 ms controller dev 7120...

Hello,

I´m talking from Brazil and I think we have the same kind of machine. I have the same Hackbook configuration (A Nextera=CCE machine) you have pointed. Running here 10.5.2, vanilla kernel and EFI. Almost everything is running ok, except FireWire and the CardReader, I think both of them are from O2Micro and that they´re sharing the same kind of PCI-X bridge, so solving one problem will solve both...

I´ve browsing a lot several sites on the net and no news can be found about Mac OS X drivers for these devices... Just looking forward now for some good news.

PS1: I was using for WiFi some Ralink drivers. Another day I found on D-Link latin-america site a driver and a more mature utility to run WiFi, with menu bar signaling (like airport) running without flaw.

PS2: I have one problem reloading wifi drivers in a second boot that I solved locking a false kext.cache file at /System/Library/.

Best regards from Aracaju.

That´s interesting. I remember I´ve seen this message on boot log, so the system can see the device but is unable to do memory allocation. So, what I was thinking about sharing a PCI bridge is completely wrong. Even manually loading the kexts doesn´t make the firewire port work...

Back searching for a solution...

Now FireWire is showing up on System Profiler! Thx Chu-Nan!

Now, why after I reinstalled the 10.5.1 update from the iATKOS iso I can't connect to network shares? However I can connect to them using VNC? Before it worked really well.

Hi, I have this issue with 10.4.8. Does anyone have or know of a fix for 10.4.8 (I do not wish to update the OS as i have everything else working, but im in dire need of the firewire fix as it does not show up in system profile)

Anyone have any advice or help it would be much appreciated as i have pulled whatever hair i have left on my baldy head over this for the past day or two amongst many restarts, rebuilds and kext installation attempts.

hi iNoob, i appreciate the reply swiftly.

I installed those two files on my recently installed Leopard version. But now i have the panic screen showing errors to do with the 3 files Chun Nan as on about and i cant boot into OS X:

[iMPORTANT]

If you get the kernel panic after trying rev6, PLEASE check if you have replaced the following files to make your cardbus slot working before:

AppleACPIPlatform

AppleAPIC

IOACPIFamily

What does he mean by replacing those three files to make it work? replace them with what?? ^^^

anyhow. do you know how i can get access to copy my backed up files and replace those two to get my system working again? i have to boot off the install DVD as safeboot from the hard disk has errors too because of this  please help lol.

Don't forget to backup your original files before trying it and double check the file permissions.

Well I have 10.5.2 updated, installed the two kexts required that Chun Nan has offered, but it still says 'No Firewire Ports can be detected'

I'm beginning to wonder if it is actually O2Micro that provides the firewire hardware service as i only assumed because i have an O2Micro Card Reader internally that this was the case.

OK ive finally figured out what the firewire chipset is on my laptop. its a texas instruments 803a OHCI. i hate pestering you guys but do you know of a kext that will work for this? Chun nan??? Im simply sick of seeing the 'No firewire ports can be detected' text in system profiler! grrrrr

Leopard 10.5.2 by the way (no vanilla kernel) eveyrthing else works just no firewire! help .. imay have to post a new topic as i cant seem to find anything in the forums by searching.

if i can get this working, it will save me a lot of money from going out to buy a new USB audio interface instead of using my current Firewire device which id rather use.

Hi purplestink,

If possible, can you post more informaiton on your notebook specs? It is not easy to help if there is not enough informaiton available. Thanks.

My laptop is a generic whitebox PC, with a Uniwill Computer Standard L41II3 and L41II4 mobo.

It has a Intel 945GU/GZ chipset and Intel GMA950 graphics, along with a Intel Celeron M 430 CPU.

It has a ExpressCard/54 slot and a O2Micro OZ711 controller for FireWire and the SD/MMC/MS card reader.
