pcmantinker
Last night I finally figured out how to install Zephiroth's Mac OS X 10.5.1 AMD DVD. Here are the steps that I used: Download Zephiroth's Mac OS X 10.5.1 AMD torrent if you haven't already Extract all parts of the included rar files by opening the first and selecting extract Burn the extracted ISO to a DVD with Nero Burning Rom at maximum speed(I used version 7.9) Format your Mac install partition as FAT32 otherwise the installer won't see it - make sure the drive you install to has an IDE interface Restart and set your boot device to your CD/DVD-ROM drive Let the Darwin bootloader start without any options (It will take about 5 or minutes to load the Mac OS X installer) When you are loaded into the installer, select your language and click next After you get to the next screen, go to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility Create and format a mac volume on your destination disk and label it "Leopard" Exit Disk Utility Click Next on the OS X installer Click Customize and uncheck everything (you must make sure they are all unchecked or the installer will hang trying to install them) First uncheck extra fonts and then expand the languages option and uncheck French Proceed with unchecking everything Click OK Now click Install Mac will now install (it will take about an hour to completely install) After installation is complete, you will need to make the partition bootable Boot from the DVD and hit F8 Type in -s At the prompt, type in this: fdisk -e /dev/rdiskX --->(X is the number of your HD, if you only have one it's 0) update f X --->(X is the number of the partition where you installed Leopard, usually 1 or 0) - if 0 doesn't exist, try 1 w q reboot 22. You will now be able to boot Leopard 23. If you have a PS2 keyboard, you will need to install the driver - skip to step 31 if you have a USB keyboard 24. The easiest way to install the driver is to copy it from your installation DVD from Windows to your Mac partition 25. Windows does not natively install support for HFS+ Mac partitions so you will need to download a program like Mac Drive to view the files 26. Once you install Mac Drive, open your Mac partition and the installation DVD in My Computer 27. Navigate to "System\Library\Extensions\" on your Mac Hard Drive and "System\Library\Extensions\" on your installation DVD 28. Locate the file "ApplePS2Controller.kext" on the installation DVD and copy it to your Mac Hard Drive 29. Restart your computer and select your Mac partition from the boot options 30. You should now be able to boot your Mac partition and use your PS2 keyboard/mouse 31. Follow the onscreen instructions to setup your user account 32. After that is complete, you now have a functional Mac OS X system running on your AMD rig! 33. Install any other drivers that you may need for your hardware using the above method and you should be set! - a list of drivers can be found here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/3rdPartyDrivers All of the above has been tested on this hardware: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ socket AM2 200GB IDE Seagate Barricuda - Mac partition 320GB SATA Seagate Barricuda - Windows partition 2GB DDR2 800 RAM Elite Group K8M890M-M Motherboard Nvidia 5200 Geforce FX Sound Blaster Audigy SE Let me know if you need help with any of the steps. Good luck with installation!
xx66stangxx
hey I followed your steps and I get to this point: Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Fri Nov 16 14:50:43 SCT 2007; made by ToH:xnu-1228.0.2~1/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_1386 Computer specs AMD x2 6000+, Asus Crosshair NVIDIA 590 sli mobo. IDE hdd. I have the dvd as the master drive could that be the issue?
pcmantinker
Did you install Mac OS X already?
xx66stangxx
you mean 10.4.10? Or 10.5.1?
pcmantinker
I'm sorry. Yeah, I meant 10.5.1. If you do, select the hard drive you installed to to be the primary boot device and press F8 when the Darwin Bootloader starts up. Then type in -x to the screen and it should boot in safe mode. xx66stangxx
so to "select the hard drive you installed to be the primary boot device" thatd just the fdisk -e /dev.... step right?
cgsheen
Yes... fdisk -e /dev/rdiskX (X=install disk number) starts the fdisk utility in "interactive mode" and tells it which DISK you want to work with.
xx66stangxx
ok I did that then booted in -x and I get to the part where you identify the keyboard and I do that and when I get to the part where it asks me to transfer my files I click the "Do no transfer my information now" and click continue and then it hangs and goes back to the "you need to identify your keyboard inorder to use it" how do I fix this? pcmantinker
Do you have a PS2 keyboard? If you do, you need to add the ApplePS2Controller.kext that can be found here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=21952 to your \System\Library\Extensions directory. cgsheen
I doubt it's his keyboard... It's probably his LAN Adapter - not supported and/or working properly (and NOT disabled!). 'Stang, what's your LAN Adapter? An "nforce networking controller"?
xx66stangxx
well I have a wireless keyboard, so there is a usb port and a ps/2 port. but when I do the shift+z then shift / it allows me to go to the next stepNo I use a network card I bought a while back I think it's: D-Link - Desktop 10/100 PCI Network Card
cgsheen
You're using ONLY the USB plug, right? The PS2 connector ISN'T plugged in at all? Do you know if the D'Link is fully supported by OS X? (do you know what ethernet chipset it uses?) If you're not sure, take it out until you get past account creation... Tell the installer you don't have an Internet connection. acfortier
I noticed that you said "make sure it is an IDE interface" does this mean I cannot install it on SATA drives? My specs are: DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D AMD Opteron 165 2x1GB Melco DDR400 3-3-3-8 (originally Mac RAM) BFG nVidia 7950GT Seagate 7200.10 ST380815AS 80GB SATA300 Seagate 7200.10 ST3400832AS 400GB SATA150 TSSTCorp CD/DVDW TS-H652L (IDE) I would like to make a partition on my 400GB drive. Just want to confirm if this is possible. I also have a Belkin Wireless PCI card, how will I know if it is supported?
xx66stangxx
Yeah I am only using the usb part, and I did take out the d-link ethernet card out. I don't get to the internet connection part I get to the 'don't transfer the files at this time' point and click Continue then it hangs and restarts the whole process. You're using ONLY the USB plug, right? The PS2 connector ISN'T plugged in at all?Do you know if the D'Link is fully supported by OS X? (do you know what ethernet chipset it uses?) If you're not sure, take it out until you get past account creation... Tell the installer you don't have an Internet connection. The only thing is that your 400 gb hdd needs to be partitioned Fat32 inorder for the setup to recognize your hdd. Correct me if I am wrong. pcmantinker
I would do a search on the forums. There is bound to be a solution. I'm not sure about how to install Mac OS X on SATA. I'm sorry.

On my system (ASUS M2A-VM MB) I needed to set the SATA controller to AHCI mode before it would show up in the disk utility. Give that a try... zuz_242
SATA boot support is not "built in" in rev.1, the next release should do thought. being stuck at the "do you already own a mac?" loop is solved in the wiki. also problems with keyboards (i had to try different usb/ps2 combinations ..) advice for installation problems with zeph´s release can be found at: http://osx86.wikidot.com/ a forum dedicated just for this release exists at: http://osx.kbot.de/
