Ok, so i was playing around and found this

Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup

Go to Properties For -> AC97 Audio (PCM)

There should be two, one is input, the other is output

the output is what we want

Now...

Theoretically the problem with higher pitch is due to a Hz imbalance..

and right there on the right, we have the frequency

It seems to be too low...

Change it to 48000hz

That fixed it for me

Hope it works

Good luck

Hi there,

I have the same problem, I have an Asus P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard, and the crackling is really bad. I changed the setting to 48hz, 16 bits and the problem is still there. Do you think it might be my hardware that is causing the high frequency?

Many thanks for addressing this problem,

Hi there,

I have a YAMAHA AC-XG (Intel ICH3 - YMF753) in a sony vaio pcg-grz615m. I have installed MacOSX jas 10.4.8. My sound card is not recognized (System profiler: no built-in sound card) but I still have audio and I can change the volume. In the audio MIDI Setup is recognized as AC97 (PCM) output and input. I cannot change the frequence there though (its grayed). When I try to play an audio file the sound is really bad, crackling and chipmunk, veryyy annoyingggg. I have modified the device and vendor id values in AppleAC97audio.kext file, but still the crackling is there, making my audio card useless.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you all guys for the great work you are doing here!!!!

I Change Both input and output to both 48000hz. That worked for me.
