ATI Radeon X300 (SE)

Let's all try to get Core Image and Quartz Extreme working!

Okay, I've been trying to figure this out all month and can barely come up with any results.

-----

Here's what I've gathered so far:

-for most people the X300 is supported in 10.4.8 but without resolution change

-by adding the Callisto drivers from here (http://omni.starchaser.org/callisto) many people can get resolution change but CI and QE is lost

-from forum searches it seems that nobody has gotten the PCIE X300 (SE) working in Leopard with full support (CI, QE, and resolution change)

Here's a list of links that may be helpful in figuring out how to get more support from this card:

-Callisto drivers: http://omni.starchaser.org/callisto/

-Possible solution to getting Mobility X300 fully supported: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=22215

-Possibly helpful driver?: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=567454

-Koverg patch: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=10415

-Katana: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=35345

-List of Callisto installers (which I've had no success with in Leopard): http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=31638

Helpful tips that I have gathered from my own experience:

-When replacing ATIRadeon9700.kext in Leopard from the Tiger (10.4.8) kext -- nothing happens

-When installing Callisto following the instructions exactly -- you should get resolution change

-When installing the Koverg patch along with Callisto -- nothing happens.. resolution change still works but no CI or QE

-When using the Callisto installers from the Italiano part of the site -- the installer fails in Leopard for all (v.003, 006, 008)

-----

So now, anyone who wants to get Core Image and Quartz Extreme working in Leopard PLEASE post your findings, what you've done to get as far as you have, and anything that can help the community find a solution.

(If you have any experience with writing drivers please help out since there are many, many people who want to switch over to Leopard but can't because their graphics card isn't supported!)

THANKS!

ATI RADEON MOBILITY 9600 PRO

Information:

-No QE or CI working

-Resolution change not possible

What I've tried so far:

-Callisto drivers from italian side (008b) will install (but not for everyone), but crashes Leopard when rebooting.

Trying next:

- Koverg driver (probably won't work because this driver is for PCI-E cards only) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=10415

I started my leopard (Kalyway 10.5.1) experience only two days ago and I'm in the middle of exams, so I'm trying the best I can.

About a year ago JaS 10.4.8 worked well with QE and CI enabled after a lot of problems, so this should be working too !

This post will be edited over time.

There's a driver out there which fully supports that card. I'm pissed that my X200 isn't supported and never will be though... There's an installer for all he X1*** series (not the 1100) as well as the 300 and 700 I believe.

Good luck.

I have an AIT radeon mobility x300 in my notebook (Dell D610). While using 10.4.8 I had QE and CI using the Koverg patch. I reformatted to the Kalyway 10.5.1 in which everything worked except the x300.

I tried to reinstall the Koverg patch in leopard but that just allowed the software support for QE and no CI as well as no hardware support for either. I am definately glad that im not the only one with this problem.

Could you post a link to the installer you're talking about, and do you have experience with the driver working with the X300?

Thanks!

I'm running Kalyway 10.5.1 (Where the hell did the Alex voice go?) and Callisto (ATI_x300_C008.zip - ATI Radeon x300 PCI-Ex Callisto v.008)

I have resolution shifting but I don't have QE/CI which is a kick in the teeth.

I'm no genius but I remember that Callisto had to be recompiled after a kernel update for 10.4.6 (hence why it broke some 10.4.8 machines at boot with it's older versions) so I think the source code needs amending to talk better with QE (not QE2D - Big difference) - and then recompiling.

I have no idea how we'd do this or what changes we'd need to make specifically but from the looks of it, short of a long-shot, this might be the only way to get the x300 happy under 10.5

tried koverg 0.2 patch, no dice.

then tried to replace this file

/System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon9700GLDriver.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ATIRadeon9700GLDriver

from inside 10.4.8-ATI9600Mobility.tar.gz, which actually has i386 binary.

no dice.

I've been reading that so many things in Leopard have been changed since beta and Tiger that QE/CI is no longer possible with the resources that are available now. If ATI releases developer code to the public then people will be able to write drivers for all cards but they haven't and probably won't anytime soon.

I think I might go out and buy a $50 or less card that is supported because that's my best bet unless someone solves this problem.

Its deadend of the x300... I've been searching for qe/ci over internet and try every ati driver myself which I can find... No result... :( finito la comedia...

P.S. Started to think where to exchange my x300 to any other vga card...

@sm

what would we say? "we dont like how our third-party card doesn't function well with our hacked operating system. give us the drivers or else!" lol

sorry to be condescending, but i am one of the hopeless many also praying for qe/ci support with the x300. it would be truly awesome if someone could figure this out (and/or fix the mouse artifacting)
