x1800 10.4.8 HELP!

hi i've installed the natit and pciex1000 pkgs on jas's dvd and my x1800gto (1002:710a) only works sometimes.

by that i mean, sometimes it turns on and works really well.

but othertimes right at startup it boots up and flashes vertical alternating black and white lines for a second and then stops at a black screen.

what can i do to make it stop flashing the black and white lines and have it always boot into tiger

thanks in advance.

and if this is one of those questions that have been answered a 100 times then tell me so i can search harder, but so far i haven't found a solution since the times when it does boot qe/cl and resolutions all work. then other times randomly just lines then black screen. -v -f have no effect, since even with those the likelyhood of it working is still completely random.

methods tried

boris manual

boris 3.5 manually changing it to alopias

boris 3.6

natit

natitauto

natitedited

natitx1800 v2

boris with 10.4.5 kexts

boris with 10.4.6 kexts

thanks for the reply but i did use that installer and i did add my id into the kext. still its a crapshoot weither it boots to black screen or to osx

So, I think something is wrong with your osx install and not the kexts. Try removing the kexts and use only framebuffer for fewer hours to certify your system is stabile. Do some restarts too. And please, always post complete info of your system (mainboard, chipset, osx version, display type, etc) and not only the device you think is problematic. This can help a lot another members to figure out what is happening... TIP: Put your system specs into your signature, like I did.

cheers!

thanks man for taking time to help me out. i constructed my sig. the rig is an HP (i know how lame that sounds, feel free to make fun i don't mind) so i even put a link lol. the chipset is a nforce 430. wanted to know though, what did u mean by use only framebuffer? which kexts should i delete? im pretty efficient with chown and all that. i've spent so much time reading around and the only post i saw with someone haveing the same prob as me was by someone that hasn't used insanelymac since like 2006 and their account is inactive. i installed diabolik's kext on a fresh install of jas 10.4.8 if that changes anything.

I had that same card on an older AMD hackint0sh, and it never gave me any problems. I installed my card manually using the Boris method, so that might be something you could try. The Boris method can be found here. If I were you, I would delete any Natit, etc. kexts you installed, and start from scratch.

Keep in mind it might not be the video card, but rather your MoBo chipset, etc...

i was originally going to do the boris method, but i have 10.4.8 and the text that needs to be changed isn't in the 10.4.8 kexts. im gonna try and get my hands on the 10.4.7 kexts and do it that way. thanks for the sugestion

edit: tried with 10.4.6 kexts and got a beautiful glowing mauve screen. then i read x1800 uses only 10.4.5, so i shall try again. oh i didnt mention this before but im trying both dvi and vga with every method

ok so it seems its the closest so far. installed the 10.4.5 atix1000 set and then made all changes and put in the 10.4.5 opengl framework. now i just get a black screen with the mouse cursor(which i can move around) but nothing happens after. i will be searching the boris post, but its taking a while since its 70 pages. if anyone can help, please do.

  • 2 weeks later...

First of all, WHICH card do you have (ID?)

My X1800GTO worked in Tiger with Natit Installer v 3.6.In Leopard worked with NatitX1800.kext...

But my device id was 7102 if I am not mistaken.....(Sapphire X1800GTO)

Maybe it would help if you flash your card with bios from some other in order to change ID?

as i mentioned in the first post i have a 710a and it is made by ATI not one of the other brands (unfortunately) people with gecube and sapphire have no problems for some reason. yet i do

So try to flash it with other firmware. It will change card's ID and hopefully fix your problem.Strange thing is my Sapphire card have same ID as yours...

http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.p...E&memSize=0

From what I see just GeCube BIOS is changing device id, all other are the same.Be carefull about which memory you have on the card, as I see it is for Samsung memories...
