I have a Netgear WG311T recognized as airport with the IO80211Family from 10.4.5. I have not been able to turn it on, whatsoever. I can't get it to work in diagnostics, or by pressing the "turn on button". Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Same problem here with a dell 1490 (brcm4312), it's recognised as airport card and works sporadicly for a few minutes, then turns off, no way to turn it back on..

tried both iAtkos10.ir2 and kalyway 10.5.1

WHY does this happen?

Maybe you have a faulty card............... that one above is PCI by the way, not Mini-PCIe. I have many satisfied customers using the Dell DW 1390 and 1490 so my guess is that you have a faulty card. Return it for a replacement.

I have that same card, works perfectly for me!! What I did, using one of the tutorials on here (can't remember link off-hand) I used the IO80211Family.kext from the 10.4.8 Apple Update, modified the Atheros5424.kext plugin inside it to use only the cards dev and Id, installed, set permissions, works perfectly, no need to use diagnostics and automatically connects on startup/restart

I have the same adapter and I used it with success in tiger and leopard 10.5 - 10.5.4 but in I had exactly the same problem with 10.5.6 and it seems that I was using the wrong IO8211Family.kext

Maybe you want to try the one that I attached below . It worked for me even if I still can't connect to WPA Networks Without the use of the terminal command networksetup -setairportnetwork....

Use Kext helper to easy install or don't forget to chmod chown

Please report if working
