Is there any solution for this ethernet card to work?

I have iAtkos 1.0i 10.5 Leopard and i cant get the ethernet to work.I installed the marvel Yukon driver fromn the dvd just in case but unfortunately didnt work

I have already read the topic on how to make various ethernet cards work but in Marvel Yukon category the specific model (88E8039) is not mentioned.

So is there any solution for this, or everyone with this model has problems?

Oh, that's bad news - I had considered installing OS X on this new laptop (Is it a Toshiba you have btw? ;):(

The 88E8039 chip is supported by the "sky2" network driver on Linux, so it might not be too long until someone ports it, FreeBSD 7-beta also didn't recognise this chip-set, but from what I've seen - it works with an existing driver, it just needed the PCI Device ID added to the driver so that it would be recognised.

If I get round to installing OS X on here, I'll have a look - if not, hopefully it shouldn't be long until someone else does (I'm a bit of an OS X noob, and don't know which drivers are available off-hand ;)

Good luck :)

First of all thanks for the answer bombuzal.

Can you plz elaborate more on the following?

it works with an existing driver, it just needed the PCI Device ID added to the driver so that it would be recognised.

1)Do you by any chance know which that driver is?

2)To add the id to the driver all i had to do is edit the info.plist and add 88E8039 instead of 88E8XXX,or it takes more actions?

My laptop is HP Pavilion Dv2000 :)

I just installed iATKOS 1.0i two days ago on my Compaq V3607TU laptop two days ago. A few features didn't work including this ethernet chip. But after searching the forum with "Yukon" key word, bingo!!! Basically, I just edited a file. So please search the forum. BTW, the Hardware ID of 8039 is 4353 if my memory is correct (I did it at 2 in the morning).Don't worry about "reboot -x -v" stated in the forum, just "reboot" will do.

I have searched the forum but i found solutions only for previous versions of Marvel Yukon so if its not too much trouble plz tell me what to do to make it work or at least link me to the topic you are mentioning and i didnt see.

If there is already a solution in this forum for this and i didnt notice it a apologize but i didnt find anything regarding this chip (88E8039)

thx again ;)

Great! :)

I hadn't had a chance to search here properly as I posted shortly before retiring for the evening... I had a feeling it would just be a case of forcing the driver to recognise the device's numeric ID - that saves a lot of hassle!

Just incase anyone else comes across this thread first (via google, or elsewhere), you will need to edit:

\System\Library\Extensions\IONetworkingFamily.kext\Contents\PlugIns\AppleYukon.kext\Contents\Info.plist

and edit it to include your ID (On linux, use 'lspci -nn' to display text and numeric ID of device), which should be structured like:

0x435311ab

(vendor-ID last - in most cases, it'll always be 11AB for Marvel Yukon chips)

Thanks for this. I'm not doing the install yet, but researching to find a laptop model that will work. For a reference, I went to the location you specified on my PowerPC machine that is also running 10.5.1 I found the file AppleYukon2.kext as opposed to AppleYukon.kext. Do you have any idea what this might mean?

Thanks

The AppleYukon driver is old and part of the IONetworking bundle from Tiger, though I forget which version.

On my notebook with the 88E8038, the AppleYukon kext detects my wired ethernet port, but does not detect connectivity (it reads as 'cable unplugged' all the time.)

Could someone with the iATKOS disk upload their AppleYukon kext for me to test? There are a couple versions floating around and that one may have better success for me than the one I have (which is from the old JaS 10.4.8 disk.)

Thanks.

Just figured mine out as well. The driver seems unable to detect connectivity unless the computer boots up with a network cable plugged in. I'm running a time machine backup on it right now and it's ticking along quite nicely at 100 Mbs. :D

I've installed kalyway 10.5.2 and tried to get the 88e8039 yukon driver to work on my vaio vgn-nr21z.

followed the path shown and opened the packages where necessary then replaced the info.plist (it was in appleyukon2.kext as previously stated) with the file available from the wiki but it still does nort work and in networing it states ethernet failed and when running diagnostic it says not connected to a router etc..

Also noticed the file from the wiki has incorrect vendor id so altered it to the one in this thread and still no worky.

Has anyone got this to work on kalyway 10.5.2 and if so can you explain it to me please?

I am using JaS with this network card and can't really get it to work. I have loaded the kext by hand from terminal, get s successful load, but get nothing. I installed Kalyway over JaS afterwards, tried again and was actually able to get it to load. Anyone have any ideas as to what JaS is missing?

UPDATE: No connectivity on Kalyway anyway even though it is "recognized". Ifconfig does not see it, and rebooting with the cable plugged in does not help

Hi,

I don't have Marvel Yukon 88E8039 but I have 88E8038. Mine work after I replace IOPCIFamily.kext file from this thread:-

CardBus/PCMCIA PC Cards for Leopard

IOPCIFamily.kext from that thread is to try fix the devices/bridges misconfigured by BIOS.

Please visit this thread for more information:-

intel pro 1000 & Marvell Yukon 88E8038 (probably many more)

For some laptop, they need to boot with "-f" flag to get their yukon working. I have tested with 88E8055 which need to boot with "-f" flag. This of course with modified IOPCIFamily.kext file.

This is the summary what you have to do:-

1) Download & replace IOPCIFamiy.kext file

2) Put your hardware's ID in AppleYukon2.kext

- You can obtain it in Windows using Device Manager. Please refer attachment.

From the attachment:-

- "VEN_11AB" is the vendor id

- "DEV_4363" is the device id

- so, your hardware's ID for yukon should be like this "0x436311ab"

3) Clear kext cache file

4) Reboot

Good luck. ;)

Hi Guys,

Firstly, it is possible to get the 88E8039 integrated network card working.

go to this thread and read carefully

http://www.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t96959.html

It worked on my HP DV2613tu laptop (DV2000) series.

When changing the AppleYukon2.kext file, you can get a copy of the file somewhere on the web and then just copy it into the position where it is supposed to be.wink_anim.gif

or you can search a certain member in italian's part of the forum. it's called Maury84. In his signature he has a link to the page where you can find the piece of code or the complete kext just to copy in.

I've got a Vaio NR21zs and it works charmly.

Bye!
