That's exactly twice my computer :) 2ghz, 2 cores, 2gb...
Don't wanna {censored} on your fire :) but...If it was 2ghz quad core it would be 2x your computer, but as it's 4ghz quad core it's 4x. Theoretically, but not in practice :D

Are you gonna give us some more info on how you did it? I would especially like to know which cooling system (and case) you utilised.

GPU Block: Swiftech MCW60

CPU Block: Swiftech Apogee GT (Lapped) w/ Coollaboratory Pro Thermal Paste

Radiator: Thermochill PA120.3 w/ 3x Scythe 1400 RPM Fans

Pump: Laing DDC (Petra Modification)

 

Case is a highly customized Lian Li PC-G70.

It's all about finding the right chip. I try to purchase a chip with a batch number that typically has a good results. Obviously, nothing is ever guaranteed. By the way I have an opteron 165 that will overclock 50% (1.8 Ghz -> 2.7 Ghz) on stock voltage for sale if anyone is interested.

What do you mean its about the chip?

I have a q6600 and have trouble OC'ing to 3ghz.. made it a few times but not stables..

 

Not sure what I'm doing wrong..

 

Not every Q6600 is going to OC the same, that is what he means by its about the chip. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't and then sometimes you hit the jackpot ;)

 

That is an awesome over clock for sure. How are you determine its stable?

is it really at 4.02GHz, or is it being detected wrong?

 

I had my cpu (e6750) at 450*7=3.1GHz, and it was read as 3.6GHz....

 

You could be running 445*7=3.1GHz, and it would say 445*9=4.02GHz

 

 

Not to be a fire-pisser or anything....

 

got some benchmarks?

 

does 2-3-4 count? (2 cores 3GHz 4GB ram)

9*445 = 4,005 GHz

 

Benchmarks posted in official thread. Should be better when I get my memory tuned. Its rated at DDR 1000 and I'm running it at DDR 891 at the moment.

 

I'll post some prime95 / cpu-z / core-temp screenshots when I boot from my XP drive.

I found that Memory works MUCH better when you tighten the timings as opposed to increasing the clock speed.

 

Also, having it in 1:1 (2.0 multiplier) is amazingly good. Like 40 pts in XBench. Care to post your timings, voltages, and xbench scores?

Sorry guys been a little late responding to this post. I'll put up more info and screenshots tonight, hopefully. Planning on emulating my windows drive (fuzion) and should have more to post when I get that up and running.

Since then I've been able to get the voltage down to 1.45-1.48 or so. I ordered an open box motherboard to save ~$90 and it arrived with one of the most essential mosfet coolers loose. I'll post more stability shots when the replacement arrives. Looking good for less voltage and lower temps!

Don't know if this is due to that MOSFET problem but your temperatures are crazy high looking at that screenshot you posted up. It says 100C and around 60C per core!! I bet those temps are wrong though, because if it was really at 100C your CPU would be a melted mass of plastic ;)

I guess you never used coretemp before. 100C is the tjunction max limit. That's where the breakdown would occur if the cores got that hot. And BTW - 60C is nothing. I'm running my Q6600 at 3.0Ghz on the stock cooler, it reaches around 75C after a couple hours of prime95. No sweat.

Good job getting the Q6600 to 4 GHz. I myself wish I could be quite that brave, but at those high voltages, I always get the willies , as I only remember the good old days of the SNDS, the Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome. So, electromigration made me a whimp ;)

Still, most impressive!
