i can assume this is a common issue on this forum but i could not find any specific thread on it. When i hit shut down, it just closes everything and i still get the desktop background and it stays there. I installed leopard with kalyway 10.5.1. and im on an asus p5b vm se board. Anyone with any solutions? While im here does anyone know how to make it so my leopard detects removable usb storage. thanks

thanks for the advise, but I've got the same problem and search function brought me only to other guys with sleep problems. in other posts, screens get black at least. in my case it stays with the background with the loading circle.

i'm also using kalyway 10.5.1 on Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R (and Search-Function, too ;) )

it seems that at the momemnt, the problem is not solved, and its a common problem. Sleep works on many configurations, shutdown and PowerOff dont work in most conditions.

Me personally, i wait for 10.5.2, maybe with that there will be ways to solve the problem.

First of all i think this thread is good to be opened.

As far as now there are no overall solutions, due to different machines we all are running.

I assume a few infos from, what i collected.

it seems to be a bios-efi not solved conflict. booted in -v mode it says that the efi couldnt take control over the bios. i am not so much into bios config, that i want to change this option "force bios" in the setup menu, because i want to keep my system alive ;)

in my case the machine perfectly tries to go to sleep, but it wakes up immediately, so no sleep. maybe its just a delay problem. i cannot change in bios powermanagement a delay ( some configs offer that).

some other info says, that the kalyway system forces permission repair at shutdown, what makes the shutdown proceedere sometimes very long. i experienced that my sytem shuts down with toh kernel but it takes more than a minute, what seems to be the permission repair.

update:

Jan 9 10:55:29 kernel[0]: USB caused wake event (EHCI)

thats what i found in my console logs for not sleeping.

Sleep: get the sleep kernel available at irc.osx86.hu #10.5 or use vanilla kernel with PC EFI

Restart: fix is available at irc.osx86.hu #leopard

Shutdown: still unresolved

Hi ls8!

is the restart fix also somewhere else, rapidshare or similar? if you believe or not, i never used icr in my whole (long) computer life... :-)

Sleep seems to have issues with dualscreen setups. single monitor works here, dual screen not.

irc.osx86.hu, nice chanel out there, walked a little round there, but then i found myself a little bit lonely, all my tries to talk to someone remained unreplied.

Yes - I was looking for a thread like this! Westwaert, I have more or less the same issue as you my machine tries to sleep but then once it appears to sleep it restarts. I also have a failure to shut down correctly - my machine restarts instead of shutting down. I have tried using both S1 and S3 Power Management states in the bios but it seems to have no effect. Interestingly my shutdown issue is not 100% consistent on some attempts it does succeed in shutting down but maybe only 1 time in 20. I did also have a slight issue with my SATA Hard drives going to sleep and then being slow to wake up when accessed but I turned off the option to Allow Hard Drives to sleep in the Leopard power management preferences.

ls8 - if i use the sleep kernel will i still be able to use apple update in the way that I do with the Vanilla kernel? My understanding is that using the Sleep kernel I will not be able to update - that was the reason I chose to use the vanilla kernel as it is more important for me to be able to update than have sleep working!I will monitor the forum till I see a fix for the shutdown issue is available.thanks for the info

Hi all,

My conf is:

MB Asus P5E WS

CPU Intel Q6600

4 GB Ram 800MHz

Geforce 8800GT 512MB

500GB HD on a SATA Controller

Kalyway 10.5.1 Vanilla kernel

I had restart and shut down working as intended, now I cannot shut down any longer. It just close everything and stays at the grey desktop background.

Only change I made I'm pretty sure is CS3 Suite installation.

Any solution?

Thanks

Antonio

i have all this works, using patched AppleSMBIOS.kext, ACPIPlatform, IOnetworking.

Which patched versions do you use?

And BTW, it seems that it has to do with the combination of Board, CPU, Videocard.

THe intersting thing is , that it worked perfect with OSX 10.4.x, but not with Leo. Would be nice to knwo why.

Same Problems here - restart works fine but shutdown works only 1 out of 10 times or so.

Tried sleep kernel and vanilla kernel as well as activating Power Off 4 sec. delay in BIOS and I also tried to log-out first and then click on shutdown.

Mainboard: Ga-P35-DS4 (rev. 1.0)

Hope someone knows a solution as the search-function did not lead me to a working solution.

o.k., i tested my test machine. Sleep and wake works well with One monitor connected, as soon as i start with dual screen display, sleep works but wake doesnt (on e screen stays black, no mouse, no keyboard). using 10.5.1, vanilla kernel, gfx string for 7300gt.

Hello,

I have the same Motherboard (P5E WS Pro) as you do but my shutdown doesn't work. Everything shuts down but my CPU fan and case fan still keep running!

Would love to hear if you solved this.

Many thanks,

Miro

Hello everyone! I have 10.5.2 Kayway patched with 10.5.3 combo update on my Asus F3Sv notebook. Got the same thing with shutdown, the screen goes black, but fans and leds are still working. Have someone fixed that?

P.S. Is it dangerous to shut down the laptop holding the power key after hanging at black screen with working leds and fans? ))) I mean can it cause any harm to hard disk (before the system hangs in such way i can hear a sound like hdd power off, so does it mean that i can simply power off computer with no harm?)

I have that same issue on 10.5.4, before I updated from 10.5.2 the shutdown function worked perfect, the restart worked perfect and I didn't ever try the sleep function. I'm on Asus F3Sv as well.

So to me it looks like it's something that need to be patched in some way, I just don't know what.

I am having the same shutdown issues as some people have mentioned above. Restard, sleep, and wake are all working perfectly. When I shutdown, however, the computer gets to the point where the screen goes black, hard drives spin down, video turns off, but fans are still spinning. Configuration as follows:

Kalyway 10.5.2 > Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo update > 10.5.4 software update.

Q6600

P5k Premium

Onboard ADI1988B sound

9800 GTX with CI/QE enabled through hex string

All hard drives and optical drives connected to ICH9R SATA controller using AHCI.

The issue really isn't that big of a deal as I dont really ever shutdown the computer, but is a "bug" nonetheless.

I was getting the same restart/shutdown problem after updating to 10.5.4. I did a vanilla 10.5.1 install using sabr's boot-123 disk for my Gigabyte board (S3 rev 1.0 but similar h/w to the DS3). Restart was working at that stage. After applying the 10.5.4 combo update it broke.

After trying a few suggestions I eventually tried changing the vanilla kernel for the 9.4.0 modbin one (just replacing the kernel, not the kext). Restart now works perfect again. Shutdown still doesn't (drives and screen power down but computer stays running). Can't say anything about sleep because I don't use it. I'm just happy to have restart working again for now.

i too have this problem but i'm probably guessing correct me if i'm wrong a number of things come into play with this: Graphics, ,Patched Sound, Motherboard and Bios versions as well as other hardware. To have all the shutdown restart and sleep you just have to be lucky i guess. :)

What you could do is try see if different video cards change anything or maybe updating your bios and even removing the sound patches to see as i heard that too causes issues well seemed to on a dell laptop i did for someone :(

If nothing helps well i haven't the foggiest :(
