Installed first 2 files for ATI3870 from #RadeonHD, geting distorted screen on boot angry.gif. Can boot in the safe mode with -x but only 1024x768 resolution. The card is reported correctly in the system Profiler in the safe mode, but no qe/ci.

Anybody has the same problem?

Could this be because of the powermanagement/power play? How do I disable it? ( I do not have powermanagement kext )

Any help is greatly appreciated.

My System:

Gigabyte P35-DS3L

4G Ram

Kali 10.5.1 w Vanila Kernel

3 SATA HD + 1 SATA DVD Burner ( all work with ACPI disabled  )

Everything works except the video card.

i had this problem on my 3850 , if you just install 3870.zip file and reboot the screen is a garbled mess.

you need to get the second file as well Triakis_2400_2600_2900_3800.zip

since you have installed the first file and rebooted without installing the second ,then boot up with -x then install Triakis_2400_2600_2900_3800.zip this will fix your problem.

sorry just read your problem again , since you say you have installed both files i would still say the Triakis_2400_2600_2900_3800.zip needs installing again or you haven't repaired permissions perhaps ?

Reinstalled triakis package and did:

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX2000.kext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX2000.kext

Just in case did the same thing for Natit.kext and ATINDRV.kext

Still have the same problem, screen is filled with garbage.

Did I miss anything?

The card is Diamond Radeon HD3870, dev id:0x95011002

Checked ATIRadeonX2000 info.plst and the dev id is listed there.

What bothers me is when I start with -v, I get:

As you can see the memory size is not reported correctly ( or is it? )

Can anybody help?

Thank you

Yes me too, i have exactly the same problem with a club3D 3870, i tried almost everything, even changing 512 in natit to 256… But no matter what i do and how clean i do it, i get a distorted screen at boot! I have leopard iatkos on asus p5b. Could it be cause of some settings in the bios? but which one? ! i cleaned the extensions folder of all other graphic drivers, but i always get the same thing!! Please someone help me , i’m almost running out of imagination? Did someone tried the 10.5.2 new kexts??
